The suspect, Enock Potani of Chouriri Village, allegedly murdered Plaxedes Kamundiya, a teacher at Hartmann House, and threw her body into a nearby dam.

Potani was denied bail and remanded in custody to November 8.

According to court papers, on the fateful day Kamundiya went to the Mother of Peace community in Mutoko on a tour to assess preparations for a school visit by St George’s College mass servers.

The State alleges Kamundiya was welcomed by Juliet Haurovi and the two had discussions before touring the centre. It is alleged, during the tour, Kamundiya was also told about the Blue Cross, popularly known as the Glorious Cross of Life, and she expressed interest to visit it before returning to Harare.

The State alleges she then went to the place, about 80 metres from the Mother of Peace community, leaving Haurovi behind.
After realising that Kamundiya had taken long to return and that her car was still where she had parked it, Haurovi sent two teenagers, James Chinamano and Simon Muhamba, to look for her, but they could not locate her.

It later emerged that Potani, who is believed to be mentally unstable, had been seen at the same shrine.

The following day, Panganayi Robert and Givemore Chibanda of Mutemwa Leprosy Centre joined in the search and found Kamundiya’s body floating in Mutemwa Dam.

The matter was reported to the police, who retrieved the body and proceeded to interview Potani, who confessed to having murdered her.

He allegedly led the police officers to the dam where the deceased’s blood-stained golden dress (church regalia), shoes, a bra and hair band were recovered wrapped in a bloodstained white sack.

The State further alleges Potani also led to the recovery of bloodstained white panties and black skin tights stashed in his suitcase.

Violet Gandashanga represented the State.
