MAZOWE — Mashonaland Central farmers, who will this year have an auction floor in Mvurwi, are expected to earn at least $150 million from the current tobacco selling season, the province’s provincial extension officer, Stanslaus Tapererwa, has said.

Tapererwa told The Financial Gazette that famers had planted 29 171 hectares of tobacco during the 2017/2018 season.

“Most of those farmers are smallholder famers and resettled farmers under both the A1 and A2 models. With an average of 2 000 kilogrammes (kg) per hectare and selling at an average of $3 per kg, you can see that farmers in Mashonaland Central are going to bring in $150 million into the province,” Tapererwa said
