By Langaton Ncube| President Emmerson Mnangagwa has publicly admitted that he was the leader of Lacoste, a Zanu PF faction which was fighting the former President Robert Mugabe’s wife Grace in the Zanu PF succession race.
Mnangagwa made this confession in Harare on Friday when he was addressing a Zanu PF congress after the forced resignation of Mugabe by the military last month.
“We should reject tribalism and regionalism and my ascendancy to the Presidency must not be interpreted as the victory of the Team Lacoste faction over the G40 Faction,” said Mnangagwa.
“Or the rise in the fortunes of one region, or tribe or totem. My presidency is about a united Zanu PF, a national party with a national outlook. I am the president of all men, women and youth, the sick and old, I am president of all who are celebrated in the constitution,” he said.

Except for the 20 000 Matabeleland civilians that you murdered with the current Minister of Agriculture, perhaps? Why were they not good enough to enjoy the protection of the Constitution?
This is an admission of guilt that it was all a coup. The finer point being an internal Zanu coup backed by a partisan Military. Step 1 – The Coup. Step 2 – the former Air Force Commander is made Minister of Agriculture after his heroic efforts of the Gukuruhundi. Step 3 – appoint another military Commander as Minister of Foreign Affairs Step 4 – tell the world that Zanu has nothing against Mugabe himself! (The Gukuruhundi was a successful campaign) Step 5 – tell the MDC that this is a new world order and get Coltart and others to believe you that sanctions should be lifted. Step 6 – tell everybody that there will be free and fair elections just like the last 37 years. Step7 – tell the world that there are criminal elements in Zanu (wow really!!) and this is a cleansing process – sorry selective cleansing process. Step 8 – tell the world and title holders that Zanu is going to pay for the farms they stole – it is 17 years on – the same thugs are in charge except for Bob, Jonathon, Patrick and Ignatius but it has all changed for the better in Zanu! Step 9 – Get the leader of the War Veterans to explain democratic space to the world (Zanu style) – “The defence force along with Tobia Mudude will ensure a Zanu victory at the polls!” What about Mbeki and the Crocodile doing the dirty work at the ballot box crossroads Mr. Mutsvangwa? Step 10 – get a handful of old has been toothless CFU Mujibas to roll out the spin on property rights under The Crocodile and get the title holders to believe in the Step by Step Process above to create false hope about resolution via Zanu Dialogue not independent, international, professional judicial process. To think that some CFU Mujiba Compensation Steering Committee is going to trust Munungagwa and Shiri is as good as putting a bull with 20 steers and hoping for a Calf crop?
