By Paul Nyathi | Former President Robert Mugabe says that he will not be able to attend today’s historic inauguration of new Zimbabwe President Emerson Mnangagwa at the National Sports Stadium today.

Mugabe said he needs to rest.

The development comes as Mugabe’s aides Jonathan Moyo and Saviour Kasukuwere’s houses were violently raided once again yesterday and Mugabe’s own daughter Bona’s farm was reportedly burnt down yesterday.

The office of the President and Cabinet revealed this morning that Mugabe who had been officially invited by government together with his wife Grace, snubbed the invitation claiming that he needs to rest after a hectic week of drama while he was under house arrest at the hands of the military.

Several heads of states from Africa are expected to attend the ceremony.

The office of the President confirmed that Botswana President Ian Khama, Jacob Zuma of South Africa and Edgar Lungu of Zambia are already in the country with others expected in before the start of the ceremony mid morning today.

Also already in the country is former Zambian President Kenneth Kaunda.

Thousands of Zimbabweans are expected to attend the inauguration.
