By Farai D Hove| Barely 2 weeks in office, President Emmerson Mnangagwa has received a sudden punch of gifts in the form of LIVE beasts – as people starve in Mashonaland West, the provincial leaders have donated 15 beasts to President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

This was during his first visit to the province following his inauguration.

Ironically the man who organised Mnangagwa the massive gift is none other than the Minister who used to label Robert Mugabe  – “cremora,” Webster Shamu.

One of the main tenets of corporate governance principles is that public office holders must not accept gifts given them as a result of and or during the course of their work.

But President Mnangagwa went ahead to receive 14 bulls and a heifer which were handed over by Minister of State for Mashonaland West Province Webster Shamu last Friday in Chinhoyi, where President Mnangagwa was conferring degrees on 1 218 graduates at Chinhoyi University of Technology (CUT), where he was installed as the university’s second Chancellor. Minister Shamu yesterday said the donation was a special recognition from the province after hosting President Mnangagwa on his official visit to the province.

“All the seven administrative districts in the province, including Makonde, Kariba, Kadoma, Chegutu, Zvimba and Mhondoro contributed two bulls each, while Chinhoyi as the provincial capital offered a heifer. As the first province countrywide to host our President and to witness his first installation as a Chancellor, we saw it fit to give him this donation,” he was quoted by the state media saying.

Minister Shamu said the donation was also a sign of gratitude to the incoming President for accepting the responsibility of leading the people of Zimbabwe at both party and Government levels.

“This was also an appreciation of the decision by people of Zimbabwe to elect him as the second executive President of the country and First Secretary and President of Zanu-PF party,” he said.

Minister Shamu also said President Mnangagwa warmly received the donation.
“Our President is unique, he showed us his humbleness when we handed him the donation, you could see an honest person dedicated towards the cause of the revolution,” he said.

Again he is the highest paid offucial in the government. How is he going to tell his ministers not to accept bribes when he accepted so many beasts himself. Come on Shamu we need to start on a clean slate! Maybe you are going to keep them on government farm and slaughter a cow every year on 21st November. Truly abd honestly this need to end.
