Terrence Mawawa, Masvingo | Masvingo State Minister Josaya Dunira Hungwe has raised concern that government officials are looting food aid and other donations meant for the socially disadvantaged.

Speaking in Masvingo yesterday Hungwe said fellow government officials were stealing donations thereby depriving the socially disadvantaged people of the right to access food aid.

“We are responsible for the looting of food aid meant for the socially disadvantaged.

Let us desist from such bad habits. The people are watching us so we have to be very careful.

Those who are stealing the donations are part of us so if you do not reprimand them, they will soil our image,” said Hungwe.

Hungwe also threatened to expose senior Zanu PF and government officials he claimed were abusing donations meant for the socially disadvantaged groups in the province.

“You are part of us and we know you.We will soon expose you,” said Hungwe.

Research has proved that 80% of all donations fizzle out somewhere between the port of entry and where they are distributed. Only 20% of donations reach the target group. Please you who take from the disadvantaged already have it all,so why not help those in dire need of assistance? It’s a matter of principle, and conscience as well as self introspection. Empathy should be practiced again, and things will be better for everyone.Put yourself in those people’s shoes and ask yourself , how you’d feel if your grandmother, uncles etc are starving because someone who doesn’t need the food/clothes is keeping them for themselves and their relatives.Zimbabweans are mostly Christians,so why not stick to Christian values and you’ll have sleep well at night knowing you’ve helped a fellow Zimbabwean. It can be done,it’s a matter of changing the way we look at life in general.

Tembo, Principle and consicience are sadly lacking with the so called elite of Zimbabwe. They have to go a very long way to earn the trust and respect from the people of Zimbabwe. And I reckon Mr Hungwe has just signed his death warrant!

For the first time he has said something sensible without hero worshiping or boot licking. Question is, what is he going to do about it now that he knows what we have known for 37 years? Is this really an aha moment for the honorable minister? If it is, how sad, but I hope he will have an aha solution too. Crack the whip with all your psycho-motor might sir.
