ZANU PF party last week seized former Mashonaland East Provincial Affairs minister Ambrose Mutinhiri’s campaign vehicle, in a move viewed as meant to derail his campaign after he quit the ruling party and launched the opposition National Patriotic Front (NPF).

Mutinhiri was allocated a Ford Everest car by the ruling party while campaigning for the Marondera West parliamentary seat in 2013 on a Zanu PF ticket, and later retained the vehicle after his victory.

The former Zipra commander confirmed yesterday that two suspected State security agents collected the vehicle from his farm and briefly parked it at the party offices in Marondera, before it was handed over to a yet-to-be-identified top provincial official.

“It is true, the vehicle was taken and I do not know where it is right now. They arrived at my place and said they had come to collect the vehicle, saying it is needed by the government. The car is one of those we were given during Zanu PF campaigns some years back. Two guys from the President’s Office are the ones who took it,” he said.

Mutinhiri’s recent departure from Zanu PF and launch of NPF has reportedly shaken top party officials, especially after former President Robert Mugabe was linked to the new political outfit.

Efforts to get a comment from Zanu PF provincial chairperson Joel Biggie Matiza were fruitless yesterday, as his mobile phone went unanswered.

This came as the race to fill the vacant Marondera West seat has begun, with Foster Gwanzura and Sphiwe Mukunyaidze being touted as the top contenders.

This story underlines the foolishness, lack of organisation and dishonesty within ZANU PF, and also that of its senior members.

If the vehicle was given to Ambrose Mutinhiri to campaign for the Marondera West parliamentary seat in 2013 surely it should have been returned by him immediately after the election?

No that did not happen, because then he was still one of that favoured few feeding off us poor taxpayers.

But now he is not one of the favoured few to ZANU PF, but to them a dangerous traitor having launched the National Patriotic Front. And with Mugabe’s involvement!

So now we have this silly story of two mysterious agents from the President’s office travelling all the way to “his” farm and seizing the vehicle and then leaving it at the Marondera party offices.

But at the end of it I had to smile. Can you imagine the condition of this vehicle after Ambrose has been using it as a farm vehicle for five years?

Good luck to its new owner. And let’s pray we don’t have another suspicious ZANU PF type road accident.

This is military style of governance. The constitution guarantees the right to strike in very clear terms. The junta does not care about that. We will not behave like we are soldiers who simply took instructions to butcher people during gukurahundi and Murambasvina and cheated in election in 2008. The people killed and maimed during operation mavhotera papi is true soldier style. Now it is coming to poor employees. Typically junta rule. Handei tione!
