Masoka had been summoned to appear before the Parliamentary Thematic Committee on Human Rights to speak on social policies, legislation and programmes being implemented by his ministry.

“Tongogara Refugee Camp is the official residence of refugees in Zimbabwe and there are about 10 227 refugees, with 1 387 refugees from Mozambique having been registered and 18 spouses from Zimbabwe,” he said.

“We also got a report that 171 Congolese asylum seekers fled alleged persecution in Botswana, and we have an influx of refugees coming from DRC and Burundi through the Botswana border and the figure is likely to increase,” he said.

They comprise 73% Congolese, 9% Mozambicans, 7% Rwandese, 7% Burundis and 4% Ethiopians.
