‘Appoint soldiers as parastatal CEOs’ | The Herald

Midlands Provincial Affairs Minister Jason Machaya says military personnel must be entrusted with running parastatals as they are highly disciplined and principled.
Addressing troops and businesspeople at a send-off party for 5 Brigade Deputy Commander, Colonel Morgan Mzilikazi, in Kwekwe yesterday, Minister Machaya said “salary-gate” must be dealt with decisively.

“Some people always say Government is militarising institutions, but let me remind them that the world over military personnel have proved to be the best managers for parastatals because they are highly disciplined, loyal, dedicated and most of all principled,” he said.

“They do not behave like what the country is just witnessing where chief executive officers and board members are conniving to award themselves salaries and benefits that are out of this world.”

Minister Machaya said Col Mzilikazi’s contributions to Midlands were beyond measure as he proved to be a leader who could interact with all people regardless of age, religious beliefs or educational background.

Chief Nyika, urged people in his area to work with the army in maintaining and preserving the country’s culture, which he said was critical to national development.

“I worked well with Colonel Mzilikazi. He would make sure chiefs and traditional leaders in his area of command were well aware of all military events,” he said.

Col Mzilikazi, who has been with 5 Brigade for more than four years, has been reassigned to a yet undisclosed position. Col Mzilikazi urged the military to work closely with traditional leaders, businesspeople and politicians.

Comrade Machaya must be referring to another Zimbabwe. Does he not recall how our civil service has been progressively militarized since 2000? We would not be in this place if we had appointed persons not because of their false patriotism but competence. Has he not heard of atrocities committed by the so-called disciplined soldiers? What is wrong with our legislators? How do they define leadership? They always look for expediency because their brains ceased to function a long time ago. Too much recycling of outdated ideas among the same old boys’ and girls’ club. Think outside the box and allow qualified and experienced Zimbabweans to do the job. You may actually learn something especially with the right technological tools and an enquiring mind that looks at issues not personalities. Wake up, the world has moved on and you have been left behind. Let our technologically and creatively savvy youth come and turn things around while you retire gracefully. Make room for new ideas if you want progress.

Once we have soldiers running the country (its already more than half way there), then the final checks and balances of modern democratic society will be gone. Military dictatorships are the least free societies in the world (eg: North Korea) and the least responsive to the needs of the people. In addition they tend to be highly illiterate economically.

Machsya is dreaming. Look what the Military done to the NRZ. You cannot run parastatals as Military units because the workers are ordinary people with no Military training. What discipline is he talking about? Military discipline and work place discipline are miles apart. If you er in the Military you are charged and detained in a detention barracks. If you er in a civilian job you are cautioned or dismissed. Does he now want people who miss work to be arrested like soldiers who AWOL (absent with out leave). Keep the Military in the barracks during peace tome and in the field during war.

These palookas cannot even run the army. They ran away from untrained rabble in the Congo and lost all their heavy equipment. Every business that is under the control of the army is an inefficient, loss making producer of 2nd grade rubbish.

This Machaya has secured his place in Zimbabwe’s list of biggest buffoons and let me tell you there is big competition for a place on this list.

Surely Machaya has gone crazy, soldiers tend to apply military rules to civilian situations & thereby messing their management. He should tell which military headed govt department has improved in the past. No wonder the country is moving backwards with such minds who are always singing for their supper.

Cry my beloved Province how will it develop when it is being led by someone who is shallow minded like Machaya who is clueless about what is going on in the country.Jaison are you not aware that all the parastatals boards there are army personnels the same boards which approved these astronomical salaries.CEO are answerable to the board. Its either Jaison you want to score cheap political points or you are plain stupid.

Brig. F.Muchemwa was minister of health well before sunctions and what happened to that ministry at that time? Do you know that Muchechetere is a military personel and look at ZBC? The defence forces industry under Col. T. Dube canot even manufacture catapulet. Machaya should be removed. He is a waste of taxe payers money.

Mahaya soldiers are trained to kill. Look how much killing was done to GMB by ex-soldier CEO, real extermination of public funds. Farmers have not been paid for 6 years yet they physically delivered crops to GMB. No to soldier CEOs, they know nothing about management, they are a mockery to business management. ttaps 3 and Bromongo are right, they hit the nail on the head.
