More than 8 000 people have filed cases with the police implicating land barons that have been illegally selling State and council land.

Police are calling for more people to bring their cases forward.

Sources yesterday confirmed that since last week, more than 8 000 people mainly from Harare South had made reports to the police. Some of the people who reported included those whose houses were demolished recently, those duped by the land barons and those settled on land unlawfully.

Progress in the investigation of 15 suspected land barons arrested recently had slowed down as complainants were not coming forward to report.

Last week, chief police spokesperson Senior Assistant Commissioner Charity Charamba, said all those who were duped should report their cases. Police said corrupt officials involved in the illicit land deals would be brought to book.

Last Tuesday, Snr Asst Comm Charamba said members of housing co-operatives such as Ebenezer, Bhora Mughedhi, Musha Mukuru and Tinotenda Baba should report to the CID Law and Order section at Harare Central Police Station.

Clifford Chimusoro, Stanley Mugadza, Innocent Chakandinakira, Driver Kasambarare, Pardon Manyima, Dominoco Mark and Daniel Nyamuno who were some of the representatives of the listed housing co-operatives were granted bail when they appeared in court last Monday.
