Bob: Some war vets abusing Grace, myself – NewZimbabwe 18/03/2016

PRESIDENT Mugabe has accused some war veterans of abusing him and his wife Grace, adding there was need for the former liberation war fighters to toe the line.

Mugabe was addressing a rally at Chipadze Stadium in Bindura where he had gone to officially launch the Zimbabwe Ezekiel Guti University.

The 92-year old leader said he was going to meet the war veterans during the first week of April to hear their grievances but warned that some of them must be disciplined as they had been abusing him and the First Lady.

Mugabe is the patron of the war veterans. Since the period ahead of the 2000 elections, war veterans have been Mugabe’s pillar of support always at the forefront of his controversial projects such the seizure of land and companies.

The former liberation war fighters have remained loyal to this date but of late there have been grievances owing perhaps to Zanu PF squabbles. A few weeks ago, some war veterans were beaten as the police broke up their meeting and Mugabe took the national TV to blame their chairman, Christopher Mutsvangwa, whom he said had convened the gathering without his permission.

Mutsvangwa has since been fired as minister of the welfare of the war veterans.
