THE G40 faction in Zanu PF must explain the fast-track rise in ruling party structures of activist Acie Lumumba who, last week, used the F-word to insult President Robert Mugabe, war collaborators have demanded.
Launching his political party in the capital last week, Lumumba – real name William Gerald Mutumanje – declared “President Robert Gabriel Mugabe F*** you”, after which he reportedly went hiding, fearing arrest.
Lumumba has hogged the limelight in recent days after his sex tape was leaked to the media. He had also publicly attacked former ally and empowerment minister Patrick Zhuwao, a nephew of President Mugabe.
Following his F-word slur last Thursday, the Zimbabwe Liberation War Collaborations Association (ZILIWACO) and former Zanu PF youth leader Godwin Gomwe called a press conference in Harare where they demanded answers from the so-called G40 faction.
The group is reportedly led by the cabinet ministers Jonathan Moyo, Zhuwao and Saviour Kasukuwere, the latter Zanu PF’s national commissar. G40 also enjoys the backing of vice president Phelekezela Mphoko and Mugabe’s wife Grace.
Before quitting the ruling party Lumumba was a member of Zanu PF’s Harare province executive. He was also appointed by minister Zhuwao to chair youth empowerment initiatives established by the latter’s ministry.
ZILIWACO leaders said they were keen to understand how, with just a two-year history in the ruling party, Lumumba rose to become a member of the Harare provincial executive.
“We are sincerely asking for explanations from National Political Commissar (NPC) Saviour Kasukuwere, Shadreck Mashayamombe Harare Province Political Commissar, Minister of Youth Patrick Zhuwao, Minister of Higher and Tertiary Education Jonathan Moyo, Harare province Chairperson Charles Tavengwa and Tourism Minister Walter Mzembi.
“Can we be furnished with how the process of selecting the said member was conducted?
“The political (stunts pulled) by Lumumba show that the agenda of aborting the revolution was planned before Lumumba was known in Zanu PF which then make the nation think twice if not thrice that the people who wined and dined with him and co-opted him in the party have the same agenda,” ZILIWACO officials said.
Former Zanu PF youth leader Gomwe said he was curious to know how Lumumba “with no political foot prints in the history of Zanu PF, only emerged in Harare province in 2013 harmonised elections”.
He continued: “My question (to Lumumba) is this, is the same mentor and brother (Kasukuwere) the one who initiated the words you uttered; is he the same person who taught you how to insult the President?
“Because clearly you stated that everything you knew was from Kasukuwere, your mentor.”
Gomwe said unless Lumumba publicly apologises to Mugabe, he would never be allowed to hold a meeting for his Viva Zimbabwe political party in the capital.
“(Lumumba’s) CIA project has been seen forthcoming and he and all his followers are doomed and will deeply regret (the) stunt they pulled.
“He will never hold a rally in Harare ever again and we will stop it by any means necessary,” said Gomwe.
