CIVIL servants who were supposed to be paid on the 28th of December will now get their salaries next year, the cash-strapped government has announced.
Members of the civil service only received their December pay slip.
In a brief statement this week, the government, through the Ministry of Finance, said the civil service pay dates had been moved forward.
“Treasury has announced that the December 2015 salary payment date for the education sector has been moved from 28th of December to 29 December,” read the Statement.
“The Minister of Finance and Economic Development, Patrick Chinamasa also announced the postponement of pay dates for the rest of the public service from 29 December to 5 January 2016.”
To date, only soldiers have been paid their December salaries but without the traditional annual bonuses.
Most civil servants were furious with the government as they failed to travel during this festive season.
The administration has also been moving forward pay dates for pensioners who it now owes two months’ salary.
Civil servants normally get paid before Christmas and New Year holidays.
The cash-strapped government needs to raise over $500 million to pay its bloated work force with treasury officials admitting that more than 80% of its budget goes to salaries.

The soldiers get paid both a bonus and salaries on time and the “evil serpents” get neither. Surely logic tells me, you at least pay the other a salary before paying one both. Anyway we reap what we are cultivating, Zanufication, while we ululate and dance to Baba vaMugabi.
Is Chinamasa going to borrow money in order to pay the civil servants otherwise where does the money come from.
Meanwhile Mugabe’s bills for wining and dining in lavish hotels in the Far East will be paid in full and in February he will be expecting another extravaganza as he expects his birthday to be celebrated in grand style befitting a man of his ‘honour’.
Surely they are stealing if they pay their workers December salary in January when will they pay January salary. What it means is there is no December wages and this system of changing date will find gvt workers being robed by the end of the year 3 month salary will have been robed murikubirwa if you stand still and watch someone urinates ontop of you and you think its rain you won’t get anywhere raise civil sevants raise
