HARARE – Higher and Tertiary Education minister Jonathan Moyo has promised to engage Treasury over lecturers’ outstanding salaries that date back to August, as the minister moves in to avert a damaging strike.

In a statement yesterday,  Moyo said government fully appreciates the work done by lecturers across the country in these trying times and will do everything possible to find an amicable solution.

“The ministry wishes to place on record government appreciation for the hard work and sacrifices that staff at State universities are making to contribute to ZimAsset by training and developing the country’s human capital without which the ongoing socioeconomic transformation would neither be possible nor sustainable,” said Moyo.

The former Information minister assured lecturers that his ministry would “work with Treasury and other relevant authorities to urgently find a lasting solution to ensure that their salaries are paid when due and in an orderly and predictable manner.”
