Leave Tsvangirai alone, Mugabe told

MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said President Robert Mugabe should leave his party (MDC-T) “alone” and spend his “little” energy on extinguishing Zanu PF which is burning.

Gutu was responding to Mugabe’s remarks Wednesday when he said divisions in his Zanu PF party were better than those in former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s movement.

In remarks seen as an endorsement for the so called G-40 Mugabe said: “We are seen as more divided than Tsvangirai’s MDC, he is happy but does not realise he does not have a party.

“He has a piece of a party. He must just admit he has failed.”

Mugabe’s statement was backing an address by Mashonaland East legislator Sarah Mahoka and Minister of State in Vice President Phelekezela Mkopo’s office Tabetha Kanengoni-Malinga who had publicly challenged Vice President Emerson Mnangagwa and presidential spokesperson George Charamba to declare their political ambitions.

Mahoka and Kanengoni-Malinga had been tasked by Zanu PF political commissar Saviour Kasukuwere to mobilise supporters who would “congratulate” President Mugabe’s successful African Union Chairmanship term.

Kasukuwere reportedly belongs to the G-40 camp which is pushing for the First Lady Grace to succeed the veteran leader.

In an interview with NewZimbabwe.com, MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said President Mugabe should not waste his “little” energy discussing the opposition.

“President Robert Mugabe should just leave Morgan Tsvangirai alone,” said Gutu.

“Instead of attending to the pressing matters in his crumbling and faction-infested political party, Zanu PF, Mugabe is trying to divert attention by making reference to Tsvangirai and the MDC.

“Zanu PF is on fire and the centre can no longer hold.

Gutu continued: “The economy has collapsed and at least 3 million people are in urgent need of food aid.

“These are the issues that President Mugabe should be focusing on instead of expending his little energy chasing shadows.

“We would like to bring it to President Mugabe’s attention that Morgan Tsvangirai remains the most popular political leader in Zimbabwe.

“The MDC-T is the real deal; the only game in town.”
