THE annual Mandel/GIBS Economic Outlook Symposium preparations are at an advanced stage with the event scheduled to take place in Harare on Thursday this week.

Now in its fifth year, the symposium seeks to provide local organisations with a global outlook to assist in formulating business strategies for the New Year.

Mandel chief executive officer Johnson Manyakara said the symposium is a platform to discuss key economic issues that affect business.
The theme for the 2015 symposium is: “Re-engineering the Zimbabwean Economy towards Competitive Performance with perspectives from the Global, Emerging Markets and local environment.”

“Minister of Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha will be sharing on ‘Cabinet Adopted Measures to Enhance Competitiveness of the Zimbabwean Economy’,” Manyakara said.

The 2015 symposium is billed to be bigger and better.
The symposium will be hosted by Mandel Training Centre in partnership with the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), the business school of the University of Pretoria, on Thursday in Harare.

The keynote speaker and guest of honour will be the newly appointed minister of Economic Planning Simon Khaya Moyo. Joining him will be the Minister of Industry and Commerce Mike Bimha.

Several local and international presenters, panellists and moderators have also been lined up to speak at the event.

Manyakara said the 2014 symposium was a success. It ran under the theme: “Creativity and Innovation: Rethinking the Game Plan for the Zimbabwean Economy”.

“It highlighted government’s economic forecast for the year with key issues impacting the economy locally and globally,” he said.

The Zimbabwean economy is projected to grow by between 1% and 3,2% this year, according to the government and World Bank projections. But other analysts have put the envisaged growth at a mere 1%.
