Zanu-PF Harare Province has passed a vote of no confidence on interim chairman Cde Godwills Masimirembwa, throwing the province into fresh turmoil.
The provincial executive committee met yesterday and resolved to relieve Cde Masimirembwa of his duties over a raft of infractions he allegedly committed since his appointment last December.
Secretary for Administration Cde George Mashavave told The Herald that 33 members of the 50-member PEC met and resolved to pass a vote of no confidence in Cde Masimirembwa in terms of Section 150 of the party constitution and co-opted his deputy, Cde Robert Kahanana, as the new chair in terms of Sections 82 and 89.
Cde Kahanana said charges against Cde Masimirembwa included failure to respect President Mugabe and misleading Vice President Phelekhezela Mphoko on the Harare East issue concerning the candidature of Cde Terence Mukupe.
“He also failed to abide by the instruction from the Secretary for Administration to reinstate Cde Miriam Chikukwa to her position as deputy secretary for women’s affairs after her suspension was revoked.
“As acting chairman, he created a lot of discord leading to more chaos in the province. He was also promoting factionalism and since the time he came in December 2014, there has been no unity in the party’s zones,” said Cde Kahanana.
He said the province was now waiting for the endorsement of the vote of no confidence by the national leadership.
Yesterday evening Cde Masimirembwa expressed ignorance of the development.
“I haven’t heard about that,” he said.
“I am actually hearing it for the first time from you.”
Efforts to get a comment from Zanu-PF National Commissar Cde Saviour Kasukuwere were fruitless as he did not pick up his phone.
