The problems in Zimbabwe are not caused by its long-serving President Robert Mugabe but by “capital”, Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema said on Thursday.
“President Mugabe is the only leader who knows for the real change to come, Africans will have to go through the necessary pain, exactly what Zimbabweans are going through now,” he told reporters in Johannesburg when asked about his relationship with Mugabe.
“We don’t see what’s happening in Zimbabwe as anarchy. We don’t blame it on President Mugabe, we blame it on capital… [It is] because they disagree with him politically, they use their economic muscle to punish the people of Zimbabwe.”
Malema said Mugabe was the only African leader who continued to stand up against the west and who understood what it meant to be a real African.
He said the EFF might not agree with Mugabe on some issues, but from a broader perspective, the Zimbabwean leader represented the kind of Africa people wanted.
“How do you say a man who has won elections is a tyrant? He has never preceded over any massacre of our people; he continues to lead a party that advocates for very radical economic policies in Zimbabwe.”
Malema lambasted those who felt Mugabe had over-stayed his welcome as president and that presidents should only stand for two terms.
It was fine for the rest of Africa to have presidents serve more than two terms, but not in South Africa, he said.
“I don’t care if a president in Africa goes for a third term or for the fourth term, but not in South Africa.
“They can do it everywhere else if they want to do it… It won’t work here in South Africa. Here it is two terms and go home.”
Malema said he believed Africa should be governed by one leader, a leader like Mugabe.
“We want an Africa where trade will happen freely. We want an Africa that will one day have one currency and have one president and one government which will preside over this continent.
“We are one. These borders were imposed on us by colonialism.” News24.com

Malema should do some research into the extreme levels of corruption in zanu pf.
the Telecel saga, Bindura Nickel Corporation closure and the collapse of Ziscosteel would be good starting points.
once mr malema has finished these, if he still has appetite, there are many hundreds of other stories where the economic malaise in zimbabwe can be shown to have been caused by corruption amongst mr mugabe’s officials and not because of ‘punishment’ by capital.
that is just a story that the thieves are using to hide behind.
unfortunately malema is a master of populist politics and he knows he will have the masses eating out of his hand. When people like Mugabe and malema are cheered and idolised by the people of this continentent there is really no chance. Is it education, plain stupidity, naievity or plain hate of anything and everything which may have a whiff of a white man…hard to tell.

Malema is South African, he should ask himself why Zimbabweans in South Africa are running away from the regime if ZANU PF led by Mugabe and coming to SA where himself Malema thinks Zuma is a problem. Capital flow in a particular country for various reasons. Zimbabwe has basically all the resources that attract foreign investment eg, literate and hard working citizens, hence the reason why they are competing well in other countries for employment. Land with adequate resources such as gold, diamond, tin, asbestos, and a vibrant agricultural climate. The only risk is the political risk that is caused by MUGABE, no investor can mitigate this risk, MUGABE is the risk of lack of capital in ZImbabwe. During the GNU, there was some dilution of this risk and there was a bit of relief, some companies even SA companies were able to invest in Zimbabwe. Its better for Malema to ask the Zimbabweans why they are leaving Mugabe and going all over the world rather than thinking that Mugabe is not a problem.
