FORMER Zanu PF administration secretary Didymus Mutasa and his nephew Themba Mliswa – who was chairman for Mashonaland West province – have been expelled from the ruling party.
Party spokesman Simon Khaya Moyo said the decision to expel the due was made by a disciplinary committee chaired by vice president Vice President Phelekezela Mphoko.

Mutasa and Mliswa join former national spokesman Rugare Gumbo and ex-war veterans leader Jabulani Sibanda who were also expelled as President Robert Mugabe purged lieutenants he accused of trying to topple him.

Simon Khaya, the new spokesman, confirmed the latest expulsions after the party’s politburo meeting in Harare Wednesday.

“On Cde Didymus Mutasa, a detailed report by the NDC was presented to the Politburo by the Secretary for Legal Affairs Cde Patrick Chinamasa, highlighting the disparaging remarks said by Cde Mutasa against the party and the party’s leadership and his rubbishing of the Congress as illegal, null and void.

“He went on to write to SADC leaders appealing for their intervention in the party’s affairs.

“The Committee treated his case as unique and extraordinary and determined that according to its rules, Cde Mutasa has continued to be unrepentant and has continued to issue statements, which are unhelpful to him.

“The Politburo has, therefore, expelled Cde Didymus Mutasa from the party, which renders his parliamentary seat (Headlands) vacant.”

Regarding Mliswa, Khaya Moyo explained: “On Cde Temba Mliswa, he has also been expelled from the party on an array of charges ranging from insubordination, denigrating party leaders, interfering with the running of the party’s youths and women’s leagues in the province, extortionist behaviour and continuing disrupting party meetings.

“His expulsion also renders his seat vacant.”

Mutasa lost his high profile party job and also got fired from cabinet where he was presidential affairs minister for allegedly plotting a coup with former vice president Joice Mujuru who was also fired.

Mliswa, a key Mujuru ally had also been suspended from being province chair over the same allegations.

Mutasa drew an angry attack from Mugabe after he described Zanu PF’s December congress as illegal and vowed to file a challenge in the country’s courts.

He also reportedly wrote to South Africa president Jacob Zuma and other SADC leaders telling them that the Zanu PF leadership which emerged from the congress was illegitimate.
