Mzembi has already been endorsed by the African Union despite a late bid by the Seychelles’s Alain St Ange.

In a statement yesterday, Mzembi said the key elements of his plan include administrative and governance reform of the organisation, responsible tourism and sustainability, and resource mobilisation.

“I am running the race in my own lane based on my understanding of the task ahead. My take is that my vision, when it comes before electoral college, will sell ahead of others based on its practicality and relevance to contemporary challenges and aspirations,” a confident Mzembi said.

The election will take place at the UNWTO Executive Council meeting scheduled for Madrid, Spain, from May 11 to 12 this year.
