THE level of suffering among the majority of Zimbabweans is unprecedented, yet the country’s leadership appears too occupied about how they can retain power.

Therefore, as the country gravitates towards 2018, it is critical that democratic forces close ranks and work together to stop Zanu PF misery.

Clearly, at this moment, opposition parties cannot afford to remain divided, but must work together to ensure the majority of Zimbabweans can finally enjoy the fruits of their independence, almost 40 years later, due to decades of Zanu PF bungling, misgovernance and endemic corruption.

It is heartening to note that the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has forged an alliance with National People’s Party (NPP) leader Joice Mujuru.

It is also hoped that the main opposition, the MDC-T, should come on board so they can use their combined numbers to eject the fractious Zanu PF party from power.

Undoubtedly, it is important for all opposition forces to put their differences aside so that the opposition parties can use their arsenal to confront the Zanu PF behemoth in the make-or-break 2018 polls that will decide Zimbabwe’s future.

Failure to unite for this common cause will merely help to perpetuate Zanu PF misrule, and they would have condemned the country to a legacy of shameless corruption, abject poverty, misgovernance and abuse of the citizens.

Against this backdrop, it’s important for opposition political parties to put aside their parochial interests and work together towards rebuilding this great nation that has been ruined by our erstwhile liberators.

The true test of leadership is the ability to set aside one’s personal ambition for the common good.

And if our opposition parties are authentic and bona fide parties with the people’s interests at heart as they claim, then this is one test that they should pass.

The political and economic crisis in Zimbabwe has been going on for too long and it is now time to stem the tide.

And if the buck stops with Zanu PF, then the country’s opposition parties are duty-bound to put their heads together for a common cause and ensure that the people are delivered from their oppressors.

We urge the opposition politicians to respond to the voice of reason, for they shall overcome.
