PARLIAMENT has shortlisted candidates to be interviewed for four independent commissions in line with the country’s Constitution.

In a statement yesterday, Parliament said the interviews would be held from March 23 to March 25 in the Senate chambers at Parliament building.

The commissions are the Zimbabwe Human Rights Commission (ZHRC), Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (Zec), Zimbabwe Gender Commission (ZGC) and the National Peace and Reconciliation Commission (NPRC).

“Pursuant to Section 237(1) of the same chapter, the committee on standing rules and orders hereby notifies and cordially invites interested members of the general public, diplomats accredited to Zimbabwe and all civic society organisations to come and witness interviews of prospective shortlisted candidates to sit in the following independent commissions as appended below,” the statement reads.

Six candidates have been shortlisted for the ZHRC, 12 for Zec, 30 for ZGC, while 33 have been shortlisted for the NPRC.

Dr Chad Gandiya, Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Harare, former Zimbabwe Ambassador to the United States Professor Simbi Mubako, Retired Justice Selo Nare Maselo, former Evangelical Fellowship of Zimbabwe president Goodwill Shana and Getrude Zhuwawo are some of the candidates shortlisted for the NPRC.

Former director of policy in the Professor Welshman Ncube-led MDC, Qhubani Moyo, Dr John Saungweme and Professor Rukudzo Murapa are some of the shortlisted candidates for Zec.
