“Tsvangirai knows Dzamarai’s whereabouts”

Information Minister Jonathan Moyo says MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai is better placed to update the nation on the whereabouts of disappeared political activists and independent
journalist Itai Dzamara.
Dzamara was allegedly kidnapped and abducted while having a hair-cut at a township in Harare on Monday afternoon by unknown assailants driving a white Isuzu vehicle without number plates.
A campaign to free Dzamara has gone viral on social media network amid fears he could turn-out dead as what happened in the run-up to the 2008 polls where a number of MDC-T activists were abducted and their mutilated bodies were found in Goromonzi and other outskirts of Harare.
Addressing a press conference in Harare on Tuesday, Tsvangirai alleged that Dzamara was abducted by state security agents working on orders from Zanu PF, adding that the MDC-T feared for the worst.
“We hold the State culpable. We hold Zanu PF responsible. We demand a full investigation and arrests of the culprits so that Zimbabweans can live in the comfort that we have a government that cares and takes seriously its responsibility to protect citizens,” Tsvangirai said. He added that circumstances of Dzamara’s abduction were very familiar to the MDC family, he said lost many cadres in similar circumstance.
Tonderai Ndira, Tichaona Chiminya, Beta Chokururama are among some of the MDC-T cadres abducted and found murdered in 2008.
A number of civil society organisation officials, for example Jestina Mukoko of the Zimbabwe Peace Project, were abducted the same year and held incommunicado for nearly two months on trumped charges of plotting to overthrow President Robert Mugabe’s government.
The MDC-T fears Zanu PF has resorted to its old tricks as the administration battled a free-failing economy and internal strife threatening to split the party.
But on Wednesday when quizzed by some of his followers on Twitter to provide an update on the whereabouts of Dzamarai, Moyo said the best person to do so was Tsvangirai.
“Please ask Morgan Tsvangirai. I have said I do not have any information whatsoever about the matter and that’s my honest and final truth.
“Only Morgan Tsvangirai has spoken like he knows what happened. He should update those who want to know and assist the police.”
However, one of his followers Kelvin Mupungu retorted that by referring question to Tsvangirai, it showed Moyo did not care about the plight of the journalist who ironically falls under his ministry
of information.
As if taking a cue from his boss, Herald editor Caesar Zvayi had no kinds words for his followers on Facebook asking him about the fate of Dzamarai whose wife has official reported him missing to the police.
“I would rather account for all the 13 million Zimbabweans,” he said.
