More than a month has elapsed since Primary and Secondary Education minister Lazarus Dokora introduced a new curriculum, but schools are still unsure of what is required of them.

Critics say the new curriculum has caused chaos at schools after it was haphazardly introduced, with far-reaching policy changes that were made without consulting key stakeholders.

The Tendai Biti-led People’s Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday said the Primary and Secondary Education ministry should revert to the previous curriculum and put in place resources that support the curriculum before its introduction.

“The authorities must swallow their pride and call an all-inclusive stakeholders’ meeting urgently and revert to the 2016 curriculum,” PDP spokesperson, Jacob Mafume said in a statement.

“There should be resources that support the new curriculum before a proper introduction, resources must include supporting infrastructure. Make proper adjustments since the basis of the introduction of the new curriculum is a research that is almost two decades old. Also a proper stakeholders’ engagement must be done including proper training of teachers.”

MDC-T spokesperson, Obert Gutu said the ruling party was not in a position to launch such a huge exercise.

“This is a mammoth exercise that needs very careful and pin point planning as well as adequate human and financial resources. It is not a secret that the Zanu PF regime is dead broke and, hence, they are not in a position to successfully launch such a huge and expensive exercise,” he said.
