Thumped into submission

But it seems he is only willing to feed those that keep him in power. After the Harare-Nyamapanda road accident was declared a national disaster, the broke government could only afford to pay $8 to the survivors, some of whom have serious injuries requiring specialist treatment. We have heard of no state assistance being given to the many families who were left homeless after the January floods.

We have not seen one photograph of Mugabe in Chingwizi, a refugee camp for 19,000 people whose homes and crops were washed away by floods in 2014. In fact, the closest the president has been to Chingwizi is when his government sent those uniformed henchmen – the Zimbabwe National Army – to thump the homeless denizens into submission following protests against government’s failure to pay them compensation.
