OPPOSITION MDC-T leader Morgan Tsvangirai has said some Zanu PF officials are secretly engaging him on his party’s decision to boycott by-elections and future elections before desired reforms are implemented.
Tsvangirai made the claim while addressing a No Reforms No Elections rally in Kuwadzana, Harare, on Sunday where he also distanced his party from independent candidates that were reportedly trying to ride on the MDC-T.
The MDC-T is boycotting the forthcoming by-elections and any other future polls on the grounds that the electoral process was flawed to produce a credible outcome.
According to the MDC-T, their decision is meant to apply pressure on the Zanu PF government so that it considers amending the Electoral Act to make it acceptable to all political parties.
“They will definitely come. They have nowhere to go. I am telling you that soon I will be meeting with some of them who will be saying what should we do now. But our message is without reforms, no elections,” Tsvangirai told the cheering crowd.
The former Premier denied reports that his party was sponsoring independent candidates.
“We are not campaigning for anyone. We don’t have an independent candidate. We want the campaign to have programmes for youths and women throughout the country talking about the No Reforms No Elections massage,” he said.
Tsvangirai’s spokesperson Luke Tamborinyoka yesterday described the so-called engagements as a matter of strategy which he was not at liberty to disclose.
“I cannot give you more details on that. You are asking me on strategy and I cannot say more than what the president said because once I do that, it ceases to be a strategy anymore,” claimed Tamborinyoka.
MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu also said his party would maintain the resolution to boycott elections unless desired reforms are implemented.
The decision by the MDC-T to boycott elections has recieved mixed reactions from different institutions and the electorate with some supporting it while others were of the view the stance may disadvantage the main opposition even in future polls.

My question to mr Tsvangirai is ; why did u engaged into previous election without full implimantaion of that road map? .You instead have a push start to the ZANU pf when they were almost on dying mode , You betrayed the mass mr Morgan , is no reform no election going to contribute change to the people. There are so many ways of admitting your failure , it’s high time that u either starts to groom the feature leader to take over or your reputation will suffer a permanent criticism
Yes, Zanu PF was dying, and Morgan Tsvangirai resuscitated it. Now, that same party Zanu PF, is wrestling MDC-T to the ground. Save havana kunyatsongwara. Havaoni kure.
At school Mr or Mrs Rock-stone we did corrections that was meant to train us to do the same when we are adults. What do you suggest Save should do repeat the same mistake again!. Maybe you are of the opinion that he should not have made the mistake anywhere, but that too makes him a god which he is not. The problem with Zimbabweans is we expect too much from leaders.
Save is always right leave the zanu rule and tarnish the country sekuru is now old soon he wld be the president of republic of zimbabwe keep on poshing we need change now
