The ruling Zanu-PF has pardoned its members and Government ministers Nyasha Chikwinya, Abigail Damasane and Fred Moyo by setting aside two-year suspensions imposed on the trio for being part of a cabal that sought to oust President Mugabe in 2014.The Sunday Mail has established that Zanu-PF’s Politburo, which met in Harare last week, also endorsed the lifting of five-year suspensions on former Deputy Minister Tendai Savanhu, and Cdes Christopher Chigumba and Noah Mangondo, making them eligible to hold party positions.

Zanu-PF’s Disciplinary Appeals and Reviews Committee of the Central Committee (DARCC) presided over 17 appeals, with Cde Chikwinya (Women’s Affairs Minister), her deputy Cde Damasane Moyo, and Mines and Mining Development Deputy Minster Fred Moyo having their sentences reduced.

Read part of the DARCC report: “Suspensions (on Cdes Chikwinya, Damasane and Moyo have been) reduced from two years to one year eight months. Suspensions therefore run from 1st January 2015 to 31st August 2016.

The Committee considered that the three are working well within the party and are current Ministers of Government.”

According to a Zanu-PF National Disciplinary Committee report seen by The Sunday Mail, Cdes Savanhu, Chugumba and Mangondo (all Harare province) are now free to hold any positions in the party.

According to the report the trio was pardoned after showing commitment to Zanu-PF.

“In the cases of Christopher Chigumba, Noah Mangondo, Tendai Savanhu the committee received positive responses,” read part of the report. “The said members were reported to be actively participating in party events and were not linked to activities of the opposition parties. On the basis of this feedback, the NDC thus recommends that the suspension of the three members be lifted.”

The NDC also heard the matters of Cdes Boniface Karoro, Killian Gwanetsa and Trainos Huruva.

“The NDC received a report from Masvingo province proposing that Cde Killian Gwanetsa and Trainos Huruva fully serve their five year suspensions.

“The Committee has written back to the Province requesting that the chairman be the one to sign off the correspondence and not the provincial secretary for administration as was in this case.”

On Cde Karoro, the NDC said it had received an adverse report and was awaiting further correspondence to make a determination.

The cases  of Cdes Renias Madende and Steven Ngwenya were referred to the National Disciplinary Committee.

Members whose two-year suspensions were upheld until December 31, 2016 are Cdes Edmond Mkaratigwa, Cliff Manungo, Fadzai Mtabeni, Danisa Mujere, Dorothy Mhangami, Sheilah Midzi, Theobold Takanayi, Simba Zhuwake, Tariro Mangwende, Zhou Tafanana, Tariro Mtingwende, Renias Madende, Stanford Mugari and Ndabezinhle Nyoni.

DARCC, chaired by Vice-President Phelekezela Mphoko, was set up on President Mugabe’s directive to give an opportunity to party members who felt hard done by disciplinary outcomes to appeal.
