Zanu PF Mbizo youth leader, Tapiwa Muganhu appeared at the Kwekwe Magistrates’ Court last Friday charged with assaulting fellow party member, over a heated political debate.

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

Alex Matinha claimed Muganhu struck him with an empty beer bottle and kicked him in the stomach on February 10 this year following a heated exchange centred around Zanu PF factionalism.

But Muganhu denied the assault charge and told presiding magistrate Letwin Rwodzi that Matinha was the one who, instead, assaulted him.

He said following the scuffle, he sustained a deep cut in the face and had to be stitched up at a hospital.

Muganhu claimed he was arrested and charged because police had become partisan and were supporting Matinha’s rival Zanu PF faction, which he said was G40.

The court remanded Muganhu out of custody on free bail to April 26 for trial.
