A TOP Zapu official has accused President Robert Mugabe of deliberately stalling development by deploying “known thieves and failed leaders” in the region.

Zapu secretary for economic affairs, Mark Mbayiwa made the remarks on Saturday, while addressing party supporters in Tsholotsho North constituency on Saturday.
“One thing is common with all the deployees of Mugabe that they all sold out Zapu in one way or the other during and after the liberation struggle,” he said.
“(Vice-President Phelekezela) Mphoko deserted Zapu in 1976, with the likes of (Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister Eunice) Sandi Moyo, (Matabeleland North Provincial Affairs Cain) Mathema, (Umguza MP Obert) Mpofu joining Zanu PF in the early 1980s at the height of Gukurahundi.”
Mbayiwa said most of the Zanu PF leaders in Matabeleland had no interest in serving the people in the region at heart, but were pushing Mugabe’s agenda of stifling the development of the region.
He said most deployments in the region were along Zanu PF’s patronage system and urged the electorate to reject ruling party candidates in the upcoming general elections.
Mbayiwa claimed that the majority of top Zanu PF leaders in the region were liberation war deserters, who are now on a mission to further perpetuate the marginalisation of Matabeleland provinces.
