280 Laws Not Aligned With New Zim Constitution

There are fears that further delays in aligning over 280 pieces of legislation with Zimbabwe’s new constitution could cause havoc in the judiciary system as some court decisions may soon be struck down as unconstitutional.

Former COPAC chairpersons Munyaradzi Paul Mangwana of Zanu-PF and Edward Mkhosi of the Movement for Democratic Change on Wednesday told Newsday newspaper that they should have set time limits on aligning the laws with the new constitution.

But Zanu-PF parliamentary chief whip Joram Gumbo said they have already started aligning the laws as evidenced by the creation of the position of the prosecutor general.

MDC-T chief whip Innocent Gonese said as parliamentarians they are doing all they can to raise these motions in the House of Assembly.

It would be very sad if EU patches up things with zanu because zanu has done nothing to respect the new constitution they were the the ones who said they will take the word of the AU and SADC and zanu did what suited them to me if EU goes ahead to reconcile with zanu they have to accept zimbabweans to liberate themselves by other means i dont care.

Has Mugabe also aligned the law which exempt the elderly 65 years and above from paying utility bills? Perhaps Minister Nicholas Goche needs to remind him about this issue. The elders lost their pensions and insurance policies in 2007 and it is a good thing that the elderly are compensated through this.
