Attempts to oust Tsvangirai claims scalps of two provincial leaders

via Attempts to oust Tsvangirai claims scalps of two provincial leaders | SW Radio Africa by Tichaona Sibanda on Wednesday, March 5, 2014

Plans to oust MDC-T President Morgan Tsvangirai from his position have fallen flat in two Matebeleland provinces, after pro-Tsvangirai loyalists managed to force the provincial chairmen there to step down.

The two chairpersons Wachi Sibanda, Matebeleland South and Sengezo Tshabangu, Matebeleland North were fingered to be part of a group in the party that has been plotting to remove Tsvangirai. The duo has since been replaced by diehard Tsvangirai supporters.

SW Radio Africa is reliably informed more heads are likely to roll this Friday. This is when the party convenes its first national council meeting since the leadership renewal debate was ignited by deputy treasurer-general Elton Mangoma’s letter to Tsvangirai asking him to step down. The national council is highest decision making body of the party.

A senior party official at Harvest House told us a list that contains all the ‘coup plotters’ has been drawn up and the names will be exposed on Friday. He said there is more to follow from what transpired with Sibanda and Tshabangu.

It was discovered that the two senior party leaders had in the last month been holding clandestine meetings with some individuals pushing for the ouster of Tsvangirai. But their involvement in the ‘coup plot’ has backfired as both their provincial councils met and passed a vote of no confidence in their leadership, at the same time unanimously endorsed Tsvangirai as their leader.

Our correspondent in Bulawayo, Lionel Saungweme, told our weekly program The Hidden Story that council members were not amused by the actions of Sibanda and Tshabangu and immediately called for their expulsion from the party.

Saungweme said it appears Tsvangirai is gaining an upper hand in entrenching his power base ahead of a congress he believes the party might convene before the end of this year. Bulawayo province has already said it solidly stands behind Tsvangirai and the former trade unionist can now sleep with ease knowing he can count on the support of delegates from Bulawayo, Mat South and North, Midlands North and South, Mash West and East and Harare.

The women and youth leagues, led by Theresa Makone and Solomon Madzore, have endorsed the MDC leader, but individuals like Madzore have allegedly been linked to the group that was baying for Tsvangirai’s blood.

Saungweme told us that in one of the provincial meetings held in Bulawayo last week, party members deplored the alleged involvement of some diplomats of having a hand in attempts to force Tsvangirai to step down.

Unconfirmed reports have suggested that diplomats have been meeting the leadership renewal members in Harare behind Tsvangirai’s back, a situation he talked about at a rally on Sunday.

Tsvangirai ordered diplomats supporting the leadership renewal calls to back off, saying change of leadership within the party was the prerogative of its grassroot structures. Tsvangirai accused the diplomats of fuelling divisions in his party.

‘We have our friends out there. We are surprised by people who say we want that one to lead the party. Is that the work of diplomats? Tsvangirai asked.

A source in Harare said it’s now inevitable that the party will call for an early congress to deal with leadership dispute and not let it rumble on and cause massive damage to its structures.

Tsvangirai could have embraced the calls for change and supported an incoming MDC president to renew and reinvigorate the MDC, but he chose the Mugabe pathway.
MDC T will soon become the mdc t. and then it will be useless.

For the meantime Tsvangirai shoul put a temporary leader like Dr Simba Makoni to call back all broken away factions including Welshman and the Madhuku. Then later 2016 there wil be congress as 1 opposition

Makoni has never been MDC so that suggestion is far fetched. We want an MDC congress not planting people from outside the party. Simba has his own MKD and should stay there or officially join the MDC. Tsvangirai has the support of the provinces, its only some misguided, greedy and power hungry individuals like Mangoma, Mudzuri,Biti and Bennet who are causing confusion in an otherwise stable party. They should just be kicked out and see if they will command any following. If those calling for his ouster have the formula for winning an election they should just bring it to the table and work as a team /party to remove zanu pf. Mangoma and co are now big headed and should be allowed to leave the party and not derail the people’s project. Morgan should stay until congress decide otherwise.

There was never an agreement or resolution which says if we loose the election Tsvangirayi should step down as president or we should have a congress.

Tsvangirai has lost focus. At this rate he will end up at the top of a rubbush heap Party. By the time he opens his eyes to the real issues affecting the nation he will have lost the chance to head this country (not that he has much chance anyway)The likes of Chamisa showning the same lick- azz tendencies as ZPF officials aint helping his cause. There is a vacuum for good leadership in Zim. ZPF is no good either.

Look for a leader that will effectively challenge zanu. Ask your self with his passed record and his reaction to Mangomo letter is Morgan the man?

why waste time talking about a personal project that has failed to achieve its set objectives. The Movement for Democratic Change- Tsvangirai is Morgan Richard Tsvangirai’s project albeit as a project manager for the very ambassadors of countries owning the regime change project.

MDC T dont be too much selfish, last time some of you were happy when welshman went out because you occupied the positions, DO YOU SEE THAT ONLY A UNITED FRONT CAN ONLY REMOVE BAD ZANU PF SYSTEMS. ****Dr Simba Makoni** is a leader of decent character and he is clean, he made the first support to tsvangirai 2013. Welshman, Madhuku, Sikhala will not come back when Tsvangirai is the leader. It is a clear sign that you will NOT win 2018 without one united opposition!!!!!

I pity the supporters of Tsvangirayi. None are so blind as those who refuse to see bafowethu!!

Supporting a tribalist dictator so he can replace another tribalist dictator, just because you are sick and tired of the incumbent tribalist dictator is the most foolish thing a normal human being could ever do.

    IT BOGGLES THE MIND!!!!!!!!!!!

Why do we have these so-called “die-hard supporters” of Tsvangirai in Mthwakazi, whilst we don’t seem to have equally “die-hard” supporters of Dumiso Dabengwa or Welshman Ncube in Shona-speaking provinces?

There is something seriously wrong with the Shona people – tribalism. Please bafowethu, get rid of your primitive tribal tendencies and grow up.

I mean, we are in 2014, not 1800 – we want diversity, and unity of purpose; we want politics that is totally devoid of tribal, regional or racial considerations.

We want our politics to equal or better that of South Africa, where a minority Venda man, in the name of Cyril Ramaphosa will soon be the President of the country, with the support of every region, and tribe in South Africa.

We got independence in 1980, earlier than them – but they have by far out-flanked us in every-which-way, sick Zimbabwe.

This tribal politics that you Shona people keep following is a gukurahundi ZANU PF trait – get rid of it!!
