Dead Zimbabweans Still on Voters Roll

via Dead Zimbabweans Still on Voters Roll 21.03.2014 VOAZimbabwe

The state of the national voters roll is under spotlight again with a senior member of the Movement for Democratic Change led by former Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai complaining the document still has serious anomalies, ahead of a council by-election in Mkoba next month.

Speaking at a press conference in Gweru Friday, House of Assembly member for Mkoba, Amos Chibaya, said his party is happy that it was given the voters roll in advance of the Ward 12 by-election. But, he added that the voters roll still has many irregularities which he noted need to be addressed urgently.

Chibaya, a member of the MDC-T’s national executive, said on inspection, they found many people who died years ago were still on the voting lists.

Chibaya said other irregularities include the inclusion of people who live outside Ward 12 and the Mkoba constituency as well as duplication of voters.

Chibaya said his party will seek a High Court order to bar ZEC from accepting voter slips during the by-election, arguing that the documents were no longer necessary after their use during last year’s national election.

Provincial Elections Officer, Dorcas Mpofu, could not be reached for comment as her mobile phone was not reachable.

The Ward 12 council seat fell vacant following the death earlier this year of Councillor Elvis Mavhondo who was a member of the MDC-T.

Zanu PF and the National Constitutional Assembly have picked candidates for the by-election to be held on April 12thth.

Elsewhere, Gweru City council workers Friday threatened to go on strike over unpaid February wages.

Speaking during a report-back meeting, Zimbabwe Urban Council Workers’ Union local secretary Kudakwashe Munengiwa, said council had promised to pay the outstanding wages on the 28th of this month. But workers are angry, charging the local authority is taking them for granted.

Munengiwa accused the council’s finance committee of reneging on the agreed dates of wage payments and undermining the workers’ union.

Contacted for comment finance committee chairperson Albert Chirau could not be drawn into saying much except that the workers would get their wages.

Well Well, Zanu hates to exclude our departed relatives who are steadfast in their support for Mugabe from the graves.

Yet another useless article devoid of common sense.
It escaped the journalists attention that dead people cant vote and that all voters need an ID with their photograph on.
What difference does it make to anything!!!
    What a waste of space!

No it is NOT a waste of space. It is revealing the truth; something you Apoliical seem to try and avoid. That example is typical of what the entire 2013 July voters roll looked like. Hundreds of thousands of dead peoples names used by false ID’s and unprocedurally issued voters registration receipts and then also hundreds of thousands of unregistered voters due to their being unable to register and a disenfranchised Diaspora. And please don’t tell me I am talking rubbish because I am one who has been affected at every election since 2002. My name appears on one roll and not on the other and never on voting day. I vote with a tatty receipt I have hung onto. Someone I know of discovered an ‘unofficial’ voting booth round the corner from the official one at one point in Chinoyi and a desperate young lady I am helping whose husbands parents are linked to ZPF told me straight that in more than one election he had been used to rig, and intimidate and more. So please, Apolitical, who do you think you are fooling. You need to repent along with the rest of us as all unrepented sin will reap only one thing: death! “the wages of sin is death.”

@NBS- is continued voting under e circumstances u explained still an option? Its e reason I say MT let us down terribly during e gnu era. U shd have fot for electoral, political and institutional reforms. There is absolutely no reason why he shd have participated in e last elections b4 all reforms were implemented. Any general elections without MDC wasn’t going to be endorsed by e international community. Remember e elections that brot e Zim-Rhodesia gvt and lately e 2008 run off

The difference fool, is that these ‘dead’
people, have their fake ID’s issued by the Chinese
and Nikuv, and then unemployed ZANU-PF Youth go and vote.

      Don’t you follow the news!

Lucky dead people. Zpf took me off the roll in 2002 and I’m still alive. They put a letter in my mail box at home on the Friday but date stamped on the Monday giving me 7 days to appeal! As government offices are closed at weekends I could not do so. This exact scenario applied to literally thousands of voters!
