Zimbabwe’s ruling Zanu-PF party has rubbished former prime minister Morgan Tsvangirai’s call for new inter-party talks, saying the MDC should forget about returning to government through negotiations, a report says.
According to a News Day report, Tsvangirai on Sunday said President Robert Mugabe’s Zanu-PF government was likely to re-engage the MDC to rescue the country’s free-falling economy.
Tsvangirai said Mugabe had “no option than to call me to the negotiating table” for a new government of national unity as the MDC had a proven record of turning around the ailing economy.
But Zanu-PF’s spokesperson Rugare Gumbo dismissed Tsvangirai’s sentiments as “hogwash”, saying the MDC leader should forget about returning to government through negotiations, a New Zimbabwe.com report said.
Gumbo said conditions which necessitated the 2009 coalition deal which made Tsvangirai prime minister no longer existed.
Gumbo said it was important for Tsvangirai to note that there was a “huge difference between what happened in 2009 and 2013. This time Zanu-PF managed to win majority in parliament, while president Mugabe got over 51% vote”.
Gumbo also dismissed Tsvangirai’s claim that Zanu-PF was struggling with the economy, saying it was impossible for one to “judge a new government’s policies in about six months”.

Rugare Gumbo do no worry about Tsvangirai’s hogwash and daydreaming just put him to SHAME by telling the Nation ONE achievement by the People’s Government over the past six months or 180 days. In fact six months represent a tenth of your 5 year term in Government so there should be something to show to the population. We do not want Tsvangirai in your Government through the back door because he won all the past 5 Elections he should be the one inviting you to join him. Whats most surprising is Morgan suggesting a GNU after taking his stance when results were announced. I dont think Gumbo is an idiot, Morgan more closely matches the description.

I can’t see that Zanu PF have done such a great job. People in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Zimbabwe is a mess: to put it mildly. Now whose responsibility is that I might wonder. With 34 years of failure under their belts ZPF should resign in shame and,the MDC have been one huge disappointment. I do not see anyone at this time that has the ability or qualities to lead but am trusting the Lord for that one. The leaders we choose and back prove to be also rans. They should all be put out to pasture.

Tsvangirai is asking for that marriage to mugabe again, does he ever learn? He wants to be Mudede’s side kick again. I give up on this man.

Tsvangirai never said he want to join government. He wants to advocate for an election that can be considered free and fair. Wanachi! Where are you getting the confusion
