Four Ministry of Justice officials arrested

Four officials with the Ministry of Justice were last week arrested on corruption charges, according to the Minister, Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Mnangagwa made the revelation while addressing journalists after the official opening of the 2014 legal year by the Chief Justice, Godfrey Chidyausiku, in the capital today.

He said that his ministry would leave no stone unturned in the fight against corruption.

“We have realised that corruption is not restricted to any class of people. It is across the board and as the Ministry of Justice, we are going to do our best to bring to book all the elements involved in corrupt activities.

“Last week, we arrested four officials within the Ministry on corruption charges and we are not stopping there because we want corruption to go,” said Mnangagwa. He said that it was a collective responsibility of Zimbabweans to fight corruption.

Speaking at the official opening of the 2013 legal year, Chidyausiku lambasted corruption within Zimbabwe’s judiciary which he said was mostly pronounced within the police, prisons as well as the Attorney General’s Department.

Mnangagwa appealed to the Ministry of Finance to ensure that retention allowances for magistrates, law officers as well as prosecutors are restored as a way of boosting morale among workers in the judiciary sector.

On December 8, a circular from the Civil Service Commission cited financial challenges as the reason behind the scrapping of the monthly skills retention allowances.

There’s some saying about locking the gate after the cattle have escaped… I think this applies.

Peter tosh is correct… it’ll be interesting to find how much these four are charged with stealing. When will they go after the millions that were stolen?

Where is all the diamond money; what happened to all the missing aid funds? That money wasn’t taken in small amounts. Somewhere there are records of many transfers of hundreds of thousands of US dollars into personal accounts. Small wonder those responsible are so desperate to remain in control, and prevent exposure of that evidence. Exactly the same reason the polling data remains unavailable… corruption.

Those guilty have deduced that by hiding direct evidence, and allow the only available evidence for guilt or innocence to be their denials, they can continue to steal with impunity. But, this is possible only where a free and independent, investigative press is not allowed to exist. Further protection of the guilty is insured when the judiciary is controlled by those sympathetic to the guilty, or even as equally guilty themselves.

No change can be successful without a free and independent press protected by an independent judiciary serving equal justice for all… and those won’t happen unless the people demand it through representatives determined to serve the citizens who gave them the power to govern.

I wonder what the list of the ‘whose who’ in Zimbabwe would look like if the law truly worked in this nation and all thieves, looters. bribers, murderers, torturers and thieves were arrested. but you see, we keep sweeping this thing under the carpet and the mound has become so big now it is like scaling Everest. Expecting the current crop of expired leaders to act is the biggest joke of the year. May God blow the lid off the rot in this nation because without the hard truth coming out we will never go forward. No repentance! No restoration!

The lid will blow off one day because crime cannot be hidden forever. These guys are not as clever as they think because most of them have children, they have wrongly misguided them due to their positions in society. These children will taste what is real life when these guys have passed on since we do not live forever. The Bible is clear about those who oppress others and apply the law unfairly.Let them punish the small fish which helped the big fish to loot more without complaining. For the system to correct itself, it has to start from somewhere then the lid will blow off with serious results. These civil servants are very corrupt eg Passport dept, police and others.Their mindsets have to be transformed by using harsh methods including jail sentences.

True Mr Mixed Race harsh sentences must be the rule of the day. Even bobs chinese friends deal harshly with their corrupt officials. The reason being no other investor would deal with them and the Chinese are not that stupid to jeapordize that . After all they know how greedy African leaders are so rather dangle the carrot in their faces as western leaders dont take corruption lightly. Wake up Zanu you must think we are all stupid.
