THE government yesterday admitted that most of its policies were not working and it was revisiting them to ensure that the collapsing national economy could recover.
Addressing hundreds of mourners at the burial of national hero Brigadier-General John Zingoni at the National Heroes’ Acre, Acting President Joice Mujuru said government was “revisiting” policies and “revising” others as steps to revive the economy.
“Government continues to revisit some of its policies, revise its modes of doing work,” Mujuru said.
“Above all, we continue to create space for you and me to pursue opportunities.
“Admittedly, it is too early to have results, but definitive steps are being undertaken.”
Analysts said Mujuru’s statement was an admission that Zanu PF’s economic policies, including the much-touted Zimbabwe Agenda for Sustainable Socio-Economic Transformation (ZimAsset), had failed to work and needed revision.
The government has been pursuing populist policies that were now having a boomerang effect on the economy, which is now in a free-fall.
Of late, the Zanu PF government has softened its once tough and aggressive stance on indigenisation as championed by former Indigenisation minister Saviour Kasukuwere.
The policies have scared away potential investors at a time the country needed them most.
President Robert Mugabe was absent as he is yet to return from his routine medical check-up in Singapore, where he went last week.
Present at the national shrine were Zanu PF national chairman Simon Khaya Moyo, secretary for administration Didymus Mutasa, Speaker of Parliament Jacob Mudenda and other government officials.
Buhera South MP Joseph Chinotimba stole the thunder from the Zanu PF Chimurenga Choir when he joined them on the dance floor.
Mujuru, who stuck to her prepared speech throughout the address, described the late Zingoni — whose Chimurenga name was Tichatonga Booker — as a dedicated cadre who devoted his life in defence of the country.
Zingoni succumbed to a heart ailment last week at the age of 60.
The burial was attended by members of the security forces and a handful of Zanu PF supporters.

Why don’t you try creating something. Zim Asset involves taking from those that worked hard to create. Zim Asset is based on Racism against a minority part of the populous which is illegal even under the constitution. After 34 years if Zanu PF cannot devise a policy to create wealth, jobs, and healthcare for the country as a whole they are not fit for purpose.

Mai Mujuru may not have understood the full details of how Mugabe rig the 2013 elections but she understands that the tyrant cannot rig the economic recovery too!
Maybe it’s wishful thinking but how long does it take for a ” routine eye check” and why go all the way to Singapore for it?
I am not sure if all of us really appreciate the very bad situation we are in. When Mugabe dies, our fortunes are not going to get any better, not because of the very poor leadership that Will succeed him, but primarily because of our failure as to take our duties, responsibilities and obligations seriously. We are responsible for our freedom, economic success and social transformation. No one, and I repeat, no one is going to give these necessities of a life we clamor for. We have to claim our power back, and it starts by respecting ourselves and others around us. We refuse to be used to do these politicians dirty work and hold them accountable. Stop listening to them. They lie. Nothing they say or do is going to change our fortunes. They are corrupt and devoid of any decency to put in place policies that work for all of us. Even, if they may want to, they don’t have the intellect to do anything about it.
Why go all the way to Singapore. Why is he gone so long. Why did he not attend the funeral of the goon who died. And why for the first time in 34 years did they hold a cabinet meeting without him? maybe just maybe the head goon is about to learn what hell is like

Joke of the yr; isn’t it?? Surely this Teurai Ropa has the guts to tell Zimbabweans that 34 yrs is too early for Zanu pf policies to show positive fruits for poor Zimbabweans.
She also is still as poor as she was in 1980? To our knowledge in less than 2 yrs in power Mujuru’s and all other zanu pf elites where already owning several properties in Hre’s surbans.
