Justice Chinembiri Bhunu, sitting as a judge of the Electoral Court, today ordered by consent the opening of all ballot boxes and election materials for the Mt Pleasant’s National Assembly election held on 31 July.
The order follows a court application by the MDC candidate, Jameson Timba pursuant to the elections court petition that he filed to have the election held in Mt Pleasant, Harare set aside for reasons of electoral malpractices and irregularities.
The order by Justice Bhunu says the inspection will be done at the High Court from 10:00 hours on 31 October to end of day on 08 November.
Commenting on the outcome of today’s Electoral Court ruling, Hon. Timba said this is a first small step towards getting justice for the bona fide residents of Mt Pleasant constituency.

Apa munenge mavakufara zvisina basa. Who can honestly believe thaT those boxes have not been tampered with many times since 31st July. Bhunu already knows what is in those boxes, so it’s a ‘token’ ruling in favour of the opposition. Truth is, it’s too little, too late. Even if he allowed MDC to open all the ballots,(which will probably happen) it’s too late to find any evidence of electoral fraud because the spin doctors have had enough time to ‘NIKUV’ those ballots. In fact it’s the MDC that will end up looking stupid. It would have been better if Bhunu had allowed the ballots to be rechecked straight after the elections before the spin doctors had any chance to do anything.
Bhunu is a corrupt zanoid. Take no notice of his attempt to put lipstick on the frog. It’s just another attempt to white wash a stolen election. Bhunu is a sellout traitor
Who is keeping those ballot boxes? Who knows how many they are? Mr. Timba, do you have the voters roll of Mt Pleasant constituency? If you are not sure of the above questions, I am sorry vaTimba hamuna nyaya, kanganwai zvenyu.
To open the boxes again is an attempt by ZANU to legitimise the election results.Where were the ballot papers?If there were at KG 6, then do not worry about opening them.People must ask the voters roll.NGOs , i think you get grants money to just enjoy and sleep in hotels.You must ask , and ask with vigour the voters roll.Thats where the issue is.People might say heee ,MDC did not rread this n that.Kutaura kweaona zvaitika.Please if you fight for the rights of the people, dont stay in hotels,go to Uzumba , Dande, Gokwe, Mberengwa and experience first hand the emotional torture of our poor peaceful citizens.Funerals are used to announce ZANU PF meetings and agendas.It took a brave young man at a funeral in Mberengwa to displine a local councilor when he started chanting slogans at the funeral.ZANU PF had donated nothing for the deceased poor widow.To quote” Vashe garai pasi tinoda kuviga mufi zvine tsika.Mozoenda kumusangano kwenyu mangwana.Kana muchida udzai vanhu tibatsire mhuri yafigwa nezvokudya” .There was dead silence,the councilor sat down disgraced.Dont celebtrate the reopening of the boxes,they were tempered with long back

if the MDC attends the re-opening of the ballot boxes, i am affraid, i may be forced to label them fools. Ballot boxes were supposed to be sampled randomly from an identifible population if they are to produce an credible investigation result. If the ballot boxes have been tempered with as feared, the MDC should brace for its result ramifications.
