President Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe returned home from a medical check-up in Singapore on Friday after a week in the south-eastern Asian state, leading to renewed questions about the health of the 90-year old leader who has no obvious successor.
Africa’s oldest and longest serving leader – who denies he has prostate cancer or any other illness – was in Singapore for a “another routine” eye check-up, his spokesperson said.
Mugabe had a cataract operation in Singapore on the eve of his 90th birthday in February and his visits to the southeastern Asian state have become more frequent over the last couple of years amid doubts about his health.
Rumours he has prostate cancer have swirled since June 2008, when a US diplomatic cable released by WikiLeaks said he had the disease and it had spread to other organs.
Succession battle
On Tuesday, Britain’s Channel 4 News released a short video of Mugabe entering Singapore’s Gleneagles Hospital with his wife Grace and security aides.
His spokesperson George Charamba said he had not spoken with or seen Mugabe since his arrival back home in the early hours of Friday.
But Charamba said the Zimbabwe leader was due to travel to South Africa to attend the swearing-in of President Jacob Zuma on Saturday.
Zimbabweans fear instability if Mugabe dies in office without resolving a succession battle raging in his Zanu-PF party, which has ruled the southern African country since independence from Britain in 1980.
Vice-President Joice Mujuru and Justice MinisterEmmerson Mnangagwa are seen as the front-runners, but Mugabe recently confirmed the contest was also open to other Zanu-PF leaders.

Because I don’t know why he didn’t just go directly from Singapore to South Africa. In fact I don’t know why he should just not become a citizen of Singapore. Certainly won’t be missed.
And please stop with this ‘routine eye check’ even a toddler knows its a blatant lie.
Thus true Lucy actually we had peace in our minds when he was away, even if he can leave his Presidency today and die next year I will celebrate to the fullest.

Mugabe is receiving an embarrassing lambasting including all the other Dictators. He is a big liability to Zanu itself.
The international reporting on the political reality in Mugabe’s lack of ubuntu does not auger well for the propaganda being preached to woe investors .

Any bets on next visit? Since it was his third visit this year I say next one will be end June sometime. Sooner if he will have to appear in public. These visits are now becoming predictable.

As the cancer eats his rear they will get more frequent. The end is soon just not soon enough.
When you are fearful and insufficient in confidence you are always blaming others and hunting for a hiding place. The issue of succession is a sensitive issue in the whole country. In a democratic state this should be an interesting subject which the incumbent and the aspiring leaders engage in robust debates. However in our cursed zimbabwe it’s a taboo and recently mutasa didymas termed the issue classified. You will punished if you write or talk about it. The country is being the monarch style. Why do you prohibit the succession debate? What are you hiding? Whom are you protecting? You claim to lead the people but the very people who put you on the thrown are the very people whom you want to punish if they discuss who will lead them. If you are a party ofnthe people why do clip the wings of those who want to develop the country in future. Why can’t you copy what other African countries are doing. The opposition is listened to when they bring issues that enable the country to move forward. The spheres of government embrace those with divergent views. In Zimbabwe the opposition is alien to the government. Developing a country needs all brains to work together. Development does not segregate, it knows no colour, no hatred. The best subject Zanu Pf can preach is the politics of hatred which is immune to development. Zimbabweans are not stupid people as you think. You want to push tnem to the wall so that they kill each other but it is only the foolish who will turn against each other and their own blood.
Allow debate because you are not going to be in power for ever. One way or the other you are going to leave that seat. Forget about being violently removed, do not waste the money for salaries buying ammunition because no one is interested in wasting resources and killing the lovely children of Zimbabwe. It is time you reflect, Bob is not getting any younger, he is closer to natural retirement. Think about the future of the country. We do not need your personal resources we have ours to return the country to its former state of being the jewel of Africa. You are the only stumbling block. The truth hurts. If at all you were sensible, you would listen, you would not struggle to pay the civil servants. Listen to the wisdom from aspiring leaders. Allow robust debates.
