Mugabe “has overstayed his welcome”

via Yvonne Chaka Chaka says Mugabe “has overstayed his welcome” JANUARY 10, 2014 NehandaRadio

Legendary South African singer Yvonne Chaka Chaka believes Zimbabwean President Robert Mugabe “has overstayed his welcome” on the political stage.

Chaka Chaka who took Africa by storm with her smash hits “Motherland” and “Umqombothi” was explaining why she left out Mugabe in her new song “Amazing Man” which thanks legendary African leaders who helped to fight colonialism.

The song she said is “a tribute to Nelson Mandela and a lot of great African men. I lived in the time of apartheid, so I know now what it felt like to be in an era where people fight for freedom. The very first trip outside South Africa that I ever took was to Zimbabwe in 1986 and I loved it there.

“Now every time I sit with Robert Mugabe I ask him if he could take the country to where it was when I first went there. As much as I love Mugabe I did not add him in the song because I think he has overstayed his welcome. If he had not stayed that long, then I would have added him because in a democracy he was that ‘big brother’ who changed with time,” she said, laughing.

    Yvonne who?
Which netball team does she play for?

    • comment-avatar

Again you fail to understand. Chaka Chaka was there during apartheid singing her songs . She does not play for a netball team fool. She is telling you what we feel. When Mugabe’s legacy finally comes to a close we will remember Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde or should I say a tale of two countries.

Your problem is you can’t see anything beyond Mugabe. A level headed man can never worship and expect a frail clueless old man like Mugabe to lead again. Mugabe needs help from younger apple not the other way. Yvonne is 100 % correct

Murimi, Yvonne’s views count for nothing to you but do count for a lot to other people. You can hate her all you want but hundreds of thousands care what she thinks while none give a hoot about what you think.

I will give you a profile of Murimi Wanhasi. Most probably male 23 to 25 years old. Child of a Zanu pf official or supporter in a high post. Has unlimited access to the internet. Narcissist. Finds it hard to make friends so this gives him relief. When he says he is off to the fields he is most probably taking a walk to the local store. Jack he is a fake do not take him seriously. I am Doctor do little.

Murimi, its sad that age and access to the net have not opened your mind. Zimbabweans are poorer today than they were at independence hence its logical for Yvonne to conclude Mugabe has overstayed.

And Ruramai,to the contrary, with age,I am not reactionary and froth at the mouth whenever I see somebody’s name.

Murimi, whether or not you are a reactionary or froth on the mouth is not the point. Please tell us why Zimbabweans are poorer than they were in 1980 when Mugabe took over. Why do we buy news from the very white farmers evicted from farms when we used to be a net food exporter?

Murimi please tell us why we have to import food? The sanctions and poor rains myth is just that, a myth. By the way I used to run combis, guess where I sourced my diesel during the fuel crises? The so called new farmers delivered it to my house!

@Bingo.U mention a time when everyone was doin underhand deals, farmers included.
It is a fact abt sanctions and drought.R u aware that RSA will not be able to produce enuff maize to feed itself this year?
@Jack.He has coz u gave him.
Murimi is not really worried what u think.
But,now that I think of it,Murimi will open a facebook page. Then u can take a peek. But not now,Im too busy on the farm.
Enjoy the rains Jack and support your local farmers!!

Murimi, it is blatantly untrue to claim SA won’t be able to feed itself this year. The country doesn’t have enough to export to perennial hunger affected countries like Zimbabwe. SA is also reluctant to sell to a country which is famous for not settling its debts.

In 2000 Zimbabwe had ceased to rely exclusively on rains. Irrigation had taken root. What happened?

Murimi, when are you and your fellow new farmers going to be able to grow enough to feed the country as was the case prior to the land reform programme? We can only support local farmers buy purchasing what they produce; what do you produce, in what quantities and how many people do you employ?

    Murimi Wanhasi 10 years ago

@Ruramai.Read the article again. It will have a deficit, and in my books that means not enuff to feed itself.
Irrigation is still there, its the no of farmers who have increased. There r however challenges in Agric, including funding for new capital projects.

Me thinks Chaka Chaka should consult her own countryman – Juju. He will tell her what is good abt RGM. Im sure she will understand. If she looks hard enough she will find many countries where leaders of nations have stayed in their posts longer than RGM.
Hate him or love him- RGM is loved by a significant proportion of the Zimbo electorate who voted in July 2013. Democracy and the rue of law demand that we respect and allow him to fulfil his 5 year mandate- ‘Agirimende by Tambaoga’.
Our country is going thru the pain of childbirth, birthpangs- wait and see how successfull we will be once the child is born. Together as one.
Yes Murimi, we will always have nay-sayers, discouragers and down-pullers, but do not let anyone despise or divert you as you keep moving forward in your nation-building endeavours. You are very rich as you now own the land!

I have heard BEE tell us how she see’s it all. I have heard NBS remind us that we are a Christian country. I have seen Clive Sutherland come home. Nesbert Majoni has jumped into the fray. I have seen the ploughman and his sarcasm. Those that I have not mentioned I Would like to say. I am Doctor Do little and I respect you all.

Ndebvu mukomichi and Murimi Wanhasi epitomise the scale of the problem we have in Zimbabwe. I am sure they are both well connected with the corrupt leadership. To have the audacity of legitimising the last election results and sing praises of Mugabe in this day and age is tatamount to treason. I was one of those who once saw Mugabe as the Messiah, suffered at the hands of the Smith regime and by the way know the majority of Zanu PF leaders personally. Open your eyes and smell the coffee…these people have never been there for the people but themselves.
