Mujuru attacks media for exposing corruption

via Nomalanga Moyo SW Radio Africa 10 February 2014 Mujuru attacks media for exposing corruption on Monday, February 10, 2014

ZANU PF deputy leader and acting Vice President, Joice Mujuru, says detractors are behind the on-going exposure by the media of salary scandals in state-linked institutions.

Mujuru was addressing a women’s conference at the weekend when she suggested that those leaking details about the corruption at parastatals are ZANU PF people bent on destroying the government and the party from within, theHerald reported Monday.

Mujuru accused these enemies within the party of sitting on projects and businesses that she said are crucial to the success of ZANU PF’s economic blueprint ZimAsset.

The acting president said the malpractices at these institutions should not be discussed in the media but should be handled by the Office of the President.

In an audio clip from the conference, Mujuru tells the women in Shona: “Iyi nyaya yatiri kutaura iyi yehuori hwemaparastatals muchenjere kuti ndeimwe nzira yaunzwa nevanhu vari kuda kupwanya nyika ino iyi.

“Vari kuziva kuti chii chakabata nyika yeZimbabwe. They know what is done by our parastatals. They will go and talk to some of our people and do what is happening.

“Vanotaura kuti kana tabva kuZBC, toenda kuZESA, toenda kuZINWA. Regai kuzoti vanhu vacho havasi veZANU PF aiwa, zvinonzi kana usingagone kumukurira unomujoina, worova uchibva mukati make, saka mochenjera. Saka tiri kuti nyaya iri mumaoko mehofisi yaPresident,” Mujuru said.

Following Mujuru’s remarks, which some observers said was an attempt to gag the media, the MDC-T has called on her to resign from her VP post for condoning corruption.

In a statement signed by MDC-T spokesperson Douglas Mwonzora, the party said it is “extremely disgusted and outraged” by Mujuru’s suggestion that revelations in the press are the work of “detractors”.

Mwonzora added: “The ZANU PF government must resign over this corruption. Vice President Mujuru must resign for condoning corruption and she must be investigated by the Anti-Corruption Commission and the police to find out what motivated her to make these threatening utterances.”

“We call upon the people of Zimbabwe to stage a massive demonstration against this corruption. We demand to know what is going on in the diamond industry because that is exactly where a lot of corruption was done by ZANU PF and state officials.”

There are strong indications that the on-going exposés are part of the infighting within the ruling party, with claims that the anti-Mujuru faction, led by Emmerson Mnangagwa, is behind the leaks.

The Mujuru family is one of the richest and most corrupt in the country, with the Vice President and her late husband Solomon fingered in several scandals, including the looting at the Marange diamond fields.

I have stated on many occasions that those who looted are having sleepless nights so they will blame the media for their problems. What should the media do then? Should they praise looters who have sabotaged our economy? No they should carry on with further investigative reporting until these looters are fired or sent to jail. The country’s laws should apply to the weak and to the looters the same way for real justice, after all these laws went through their approval in parliament. They passed these anti-corruption laws then we want to see them being applied without favours. We are not talking cheap politics here but real problems which are killing our economy.

We all in our small part must continue to write and condemn this evil that has shrouded our once beautiful country. NO ZANU THIEF CAN TELL US WHAT TO DO OR SAY. Voetsek.

Just shows the breathtaking arrogance of these people that they think they should be above the press exposures, they have long forgotten that it is taxpayers money they are looting. As for the comment about the presidents office handling these matters….please don’t insult our intelligence!

Why would Joice teurai ropa mujuru condone corruption.? What has the president doing about except sit on the reported case files? Is it possible that mujuru is afraid all corruption cases are going to be exposed at very levels such Nikuv rigging of the 2013 elections? Is she afraid that there will also be a Marange-gate?

These are transparent processes taking place which the public has every right to know about, not just the elite few like you. You are public civil servant, Joice, and the parastals just like you are accountable to the public regardless of who voted for (if you got any votes).

This is the very problem with ZANU pf top notch, you think you are above every other citizen and do as you please with the country’s resources. You covered up your stolen election with Nikuv and now you want to cover up your corruption tracks.

This is exactly why aid and FDI are not coming our because of your looting. We are tired of ZANU pf corrupt ways. We voted you out, but you stole the elections
I guess you are going to start singing the sanctions mantra by saying the west and the sanctions are behind exposing corruption.
What are you trying to cover up? Is there something bigger that is to be unearthed?

Leave Jono and Supa to continue reporting the rot.

Mujuru’s comments say it all. She is as complicit in 30 years of corruption, greed and looting as the others. Is she is scared that she is next on the list to be named?. The reason that corruption is so bad in ZPF and Govt. is exactly because for 34 years they prevented the media and other watchdogs from going public on this ongoing filth. Mujuru is the senior president of Zimbabwe and her comments are disgusting and she is a disgrace to the people of Zimbabwe. God help Zimbabwe if she ever becomes president.

Mai Mujuru is a master of misjudgement, remember she spent 4 years in court fighting to stop Masiiwa from starting a Econet. The attoney general warned her but she opted to spend tax payers money on private lawyers. To her credit she broke Masiiwa to his knees by investing serious effort including 2presidential decrees and insulting Nkomo asithi(a senile old man). Thats Teurai Ropa defending Solomon Mujuru’s money. Once again VP Mujuru defending Zanu PF cronies

Considering that she intends to be heir to the zanu pf leader, she is reckless and useless. Remember the econet saga again where she was forced to eat humble pie after berating the late vp joshua nkomo. Zimbabwe does not deserve someone of that stature, she must be probed also about the Murowa diamonds. If zpf relies on such characters its doomed to fate and we will take back all those properties.

Crooked president, crooked vice-president, supported by crooked ZANUPF… pot full of thieves all looking for more to steal. Any wonder they do not want the publicity. Most important is to recover all the loot they have stolen. DO IT NOW..! Later, it will have been distributed to family and spent on foreign properties, and unrecoverable.
