New cars not posh enough for MPs, Mliswa

via New cars not posh enough for MPs, Mliswa NewZimbabwe 21/05/2014

Zanu PF legislator Temba Mliswa has described vehicles sourced for the lawmakers in a deal to be financed by government as “sub-standard”, adding the legislators deserved better.

Debating on a motion introduced by MDC MP’s Priscilla Misiharabwi-Mushonga on the welfare of civil servants, Mliswa said the MPs have shown patriotism by attending to parliamentary duties without vehicles.

He said the vehicles acquired by the government were not of a good enough standard.

The government, which is struggling to pay civil servants this month, is set to splash about $11 million on vehicles for the country’s bloated legislature.

The deal will see the MPs taking delivery of Ford Ranger vehicles, with the priciest going for about $35,000.

But Mliswa said the vehicles do not fit their status as they are “honourable” people who should be accorded the same status with their counterparts in the executive.

“No one should be apologetic of getting the new vehicles. In fact, they are sub-standard and of poor quality to what we deserve,” he said while other MPs in the house ululated in support.

“I must commend all of you honourables here who come to Parliament without vehicles. You put national interest first and are proud of your country. You come here without fuel and allowances. This must be commended,” he said.

Under the deal, the MPs were exempted from paying duty and value added tax.

The legislators will get their wheels from a local car dealer Croco Motors.

A number of MPs have complained that the terms of the deal were murky with many unhappy they may have to repay for the cars with interest.

Other MPs, in response to Mliswa’s statement, said they have gone for 13 weeks without fuel and allowances which were recently cut from $75 to $40 per sitting.

In 2009 government, which still owes legislators from the last Parliament huge sums in unpaid allowances, had to write off a $4 million debt accrued after the purchase of double cab vehicles during the hyper-inflationary era.

Recently President Robert Mugabe’s government spent about $6 million on 100 luxury Range Rover vehicles with critics arguing Cabinet should show confidence in the country’s industries by buying locally to support the Buy-Zimbabwe Campaign launched last year.

Rubbish it is from a sense of entitlement. This piece of rubbish Mliswa is a ZANU PF thief. An MP is the lowest form of public servant, he should buy his own vehicle out of his salary, or walk. He is definitely not an “honourable’ person which is the lowest form of title handed out by the British Crown as an honour to people who have served the country well over a number of years. This is another ZANU PF monkey trying to ape the British.

      • Child of God says:

Or perhaps just good old fashioned GREED. The “I WANT, I WANT, I WANT” scenario. I also don’t care who has to go without their hard earned salary as long as I GET WHAT I WANT !!!!!!

“the vehicles do not fit their status as they are “honourable” people who should be accorded the same status with their counterparts in the executive.- SIC

Just remembered they will just put their hands out and SCROUNGE AROUND THE WORLD to make up for the vehicles
There is a good old saying MLISWA:-
MANNERS maketh a man and NOT THE CLOTHES HE WEARS

  4. Petal says:

and the teachers are going to lose 3 months wages ?
These thieving scum bags will never get their priorities right NEVER EVER

  5. tino says:

In my personal opinion the MPs deserve no vehicles at all.If the government cant afford to give junior doctors 5000us loans to buy cars son as to retain them, why give people who have no clue to save us from economic collapse?Even Headmasters deserve better than MPs as their key result area of pass rate is scrutunised by everyone.Cn the MPs tell us their action plans for 2014 OR THEY ARE JUST SLEEPING IN PARLIAMENT.To be honest , high profile MPs like Walter Muzembi are useless.Mhere in Masvingo is also useless. What have they done to uplift the lives of people in Nyajena?Tokwe Mkosi victims are struggling and they never went there to symbathise with their relatives.
Some MPS do not even know that being an MP is not a ticket to argue for your party in Parliament. You are the servant of the people, not the boss.If MPS need vevicles they must buy for themselves because they were buying beer during campaigns
I urge businesses to stop paying tax if these greedy MPs continue witheir lavish demands

      ACTION PLAN FOR 2014:-
      1. Top Priority – MPs and those in ministerial positions including Bob will CONTINUE to loot from the coffers!

Put him up against a wall and execute him summarily. And his comrades in arms. Dregs of society.

  7. Heighho says:

They do not get it. They are civil servants ; they are supposed to represent their constituents and are answerable to them, not the other way around . In future, Mliswa, refer to your constituent as “Honourable tax paying Person who pays my salary”. Grovel and tug your forelock while so doing. Walk to work, ride a bike, drive a small car. Remember who you are. You are not a big god; you are not even a little god. You are a politician with a no idea of how to fix the economy. Big cars do not respect make. It simply looks more ridiculous and people snigger as you pass by.

  8. Petal says:

Perhaps the the next thing Mliswa will be demanding that when his motorcade passes all the people must stop what they are doing and BOW down and worship him!

  9. LUCY says:

Everyone else gets paid by results. This is the only bunch of non-entities who get paid before they have even done the job they where sworn to do in Parliament. Soon as they step inside that now less than August House they give themselves status. They think they are better than everyone else. They have not earned any status so to me they are scum and will remain so whether they drive the latest BMW or walk to work. I refuse to acknowledge this filth. Temba sits very well with excrement

  10. John Thomas says:

If the vehicles are not good enough do the honourable thing and buy your own. Or maybe you and your comrades are too useless to do anything except scrounge and complain.

  11. Justice says:

When you have committed crimes against the people of Zimbabwe and destroyed the wealth of the country you deserve to go to Chikurubi to ponder the errors of your ways and maybe then will develop a little humility. What goes around comes around.

  12. Kusvikazvanaka says:

Themba should be taken for psychiatric testing immediately. Why on earth should he think the MPs in Zim are of any importance than 10 people who are sharing a quarter room at matapi/Nenyere flats in Mbare? 11 million could easily replace those flats!! You are an idiot Themba. Be careful your days are numbered. Mutasa is after your head. Mangagwa, nyabadza, Jona Moyo are all after your head. Anytime you will be gone for you are not worthy a word out of your stinking mouth. You too corrupt much more corrupt than any Nigerian who ever walked…

  13. macemike says:

There are children on the street corners and robots that are forced to beg to pay school fees. There are citizens who have no access to medication. Do our MP’s care – the answer is no. We should have elections annually because that is the only time they get off the arse and at least pretend to do something for their area. God only knows why I still live here.

  14. Old Man River says:

Neat. Everything that’s wrong with the country, summed up in one eight-word headline.

  15. roving ambassador. says:

close that parliament. The Mdc is giving legitimacy to that Zanu mafia house. Walk out and boycott if you are for the people. Zanufication of the Mdc completed. They cry that the elections were rigged and they still support the Mliswas of this world.
    Treason.

  16. Heighho says:

Yes close parliament govt is an immaterial waste of money. What does it actually do for the people? – nothing, except hinder individuals in trying to develop to their full potentials.

  17. Jake says:

That’s fine Themba, you can buy a ‘posh Porsche’, when Billy pays you out your $165m commission. If brains were taxed, he would get a rebate.

  18. Bee says:

Mliswa just be quiet. You are an embarrassment

  19. NBS says:

Fire the whole lot: ungrateful selfish greedy people. When are you going to start getting on your knees and just be grateful. Millions go without so you can have those vehicles. God’s hates this ungratefulness. You should each get a bicycle. That’s all you deserve.

  20. The Mind Boggles says:

How the hell does a moronic amoeba like Mliswa even get into parliament?? What does this say about the intelligence of the rest of the population that such a dimwit is allowed to get out of bed let alone into a position of authority??

  21. Mike Nyathi says:

    Burn them at the stake.

  22. Mandevu says:

All sounds like a “Croco s***”. Forget all the political parties in looking for a solution to Zimbabwe’s problems. The answer lies in the countyry’s ordinary citizens. Time to rise

  23. Mukanya says:

    Thievish, greed Mliswa mentality exposed

  24. Ruramai says:

That’s what happens when people who should be in jail find their way into parliament. We are in a dictatorship where parliament is of no consequence yet we are expected to pay for these scumbags.

Ian Smith drove a Peugeot 404 and the MPs bought themselves vehicles. Most drove Renault 4s. I feel like puking each time these thieving idiots open their stinking mouths.

  25. Saddened says:

    Well said everyone! BRAVO!!!

  26. tino says:

IF ZANU PF CARES, THENIT WOULD SEE THAT PEOPLE ARE ANGRY.IF MDC CARES , THEN THE MPS WOULD REFUSE THE CARS.IF MUGABE CARES, THEN HE WOULD STOP THE PURCHASE OF THOSE CARS.IF CHINAMASA CARES,THEN HE WOULD TELL MPS THAT THERE IS NO MONEY FOR VEHICLES THIS TERM.TO SUM UP, IF THE PRESIDENT CARES, THEN HE WOULD SAY I HAVE FAILED.BUT WHO CARES…………………..? EVEN THE MDC MPS DO NOT WANT TO DISTANCE THEMSELVES FROM THE MAD DEMANDS.ONE DAY PEOPLE’S POWER WILL RULE AND BAN BOTH ZANU PF AND MDC UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.MARK MY WORDS

  27. If anyone even doubted Mliswa’s mental instability this will no doubt prove that we are dealing with a mad man. If the headlines read “Zimbabwean unemployment at 2%” Zimbabwe gives its population affordable health care” Housing is affordable for every Zimbabwean” Zimbabwe imports sky rocket to make Zimbabwe one of the top exporting countries in the world” Education for all a reality in Zimbabwe” Zimbabwe has the best road and rail network in Southern Africa” Then and only then would they deserve this. They have failed so they should be each given a bicycle to get to work. The world will look and say” Zimbabwean flops are the best looked after Politicians in the world”.

  28. munzwa says:

All well said, no need to refer to these scumbags as honorables any longer now!!!. If they need govt to provide a vehicle why not one from our own assemble plants, we talk about value added all the time why don’t these idiots practice what they preach..Believe the mdc mps were waiting for these vehicles before committing to renewal… well well might as well stay right where you are, on the last carriage of the gravy train…

  29. Gomogranny says:

Put the honorables in Ox carts then the country can get on with rehabilitating itself while the Oxen slow down these THIEVES to pace we can live with.

  30. Ike says:

And all the mps ululated,my foot. There is no difference between mdc & zanu mps. They make me sick in the stomach!!!!

  31. Petal says:

Mliswa is very arrogant thieving scum bag like the rest and the opposition are stomaching this they should either tell him to shut his big gob and raise issues about all the looting. the grand coalition better not be like these people by now they should be outside the border asking for support

  32. Petal says:

Mliswa should have lived during the time of the French Revolution where people like him were beheaded by the peasants

  33. Petal says:

The writing is on the WALL!

  34. Straight Shooter says:

Its all about “ME! ME! ME! ME!”

There is no national service – nothing. Any wonder the country is in such a mess!!

  35. Chimoto says:

Parangeta, you are surprising .You focus on petty issues of writing in capital letters. The issue is of greedy MPS, Not capital letters.Misdirected energy really.A lot of adverts are in capital letters, is that rude?

  36. dennis chikuve says:

$35,000 for a Ford Ranger? This car dealership must be investigated by Interpol. Our buy 2 legislators are the most gullible people on earth and they deserve what they get when Zimbos finally wake up from their deep slumber and realize they are being cheated by a sophisticated syndicate of thieves. Mliswa should produce his current resume and look for a job and then buy himself a bicycle. He reflects the typical Zanu PF culture of impunity, privilege and entitlement. Cars before the nation’s survival is a sad state of affairs. So obsessed with perishable stuff.

    • Petal says:

If these investigations are done locally it will just prove fruitless typical of the african mentality ,
They cannot do without the posh cars which are mainly used for their many girlfriends they must stay at the poshest hotels etc and the country is reeling with debt.
Servilo Berlusconni- Italy- is doing community work at an elderly peoples home for his part in corruption

  37. madube says:

Politics is not for poor people who think its a job it is a national duty for those who honestly want the welfare of their country if the MP in parliament don’t know that then they are in the wrong place.

  38. Disillusioned says:

When the best leaders in the world , for example Swedish Prime Minister, or Boris Johnson , Mayor of London, ride to work on bicycles…..why oh why does this corruption in Africa go on ? Smith drove a humble car…….
