New cars not posh enough for MPs, Mliswa

via New cars not posh enough for MPs, Mliswa NewZimbabwe 21/05/2014

Zanu PF legislator Temba Mliswa has described vehicles sourced for the lawmakers in a deal to be financed by government as “sub-standard”, adding the legislators deserved better.

Debating on a motion introduced by MDC MP’s Priscilla Misiharabwi-Mushonga on the welfare of civil servants, Mliswa said the MPs have shown patriotism by attending to parliamentary duties without vehicles.

He said the vehicles acquired by the government were not of a good enough standard.

The government, which is struggling to pay civil servants this month, is set to splash about $11 million on vehicles for the country’s bloated legislature.

The deal will see the MPs taking delivery of Ford Ranger vehicles, with the priciest going for about $35,000.

But Mliswa said the vehicles do not fit their status as they are “honourable” people who should be accorded the same status with their counterparts in the executive.

“No one should be apologetic of getting the new vehicles. In fact, they are sub-standard and of poor quality to what we deserve,” he said while other MPs in the house ululated in support.

“I must commend all of you honourables here who come to Parliament without vehicles. You put national interest first and are proud of your country. You come here without fuel and allowances. This must be commended,” he said.

Under the deal, the MPs were exempted from paying duty and value added tax.

The legislators will get their wheels from a local car dealer Croco Motors.

A number of MPs have complained that the terms of the deal were murky with many unhappy they may have to repay for the cars with interest.

Other MPs, in response to Mliswa’s statement, said they have gone for 13 weeks without fuel and allowances which were recently cut from $75 to $40 per sitting.

In 2009 government, which still owes legislators from the last Parliament huge sums in unpaid allowances, had to write off a $4 million debt accrued after the purchase of double cab vehicles during the hyper-inflationary era.

Recently President Robert Mugabe’s government spent about $6 million on 100 luxury Range Rover vehicles with critics arguing Cabinet should show confidence in the country’s industries by buying locally to support the Buy-Zimbabwe Campaign launched last year.

Rubbish it is from a sense of entitlement. This piece of rubbish Mliswa is a ZANU PF thief. An MP is the lowest form of public servant, he should buy his own vehicle out of his salary, or walk. He is definitely not an “honourable’ person which is the lowest form of title handed out by the British Crown as an honour to people who have served the country well over a number of years. This is another ZANU PF monkey trying to ape the British.

In my personal opinion the MPs deserve no vehicles at all.If the government cant afford to give junior doctors 5000us loans to buy cars son as to retain them, why give people who have no clue to save us from economic collapse?Even Headmasters deserve better than MPs as their key result area of pass rate is scrutunised by everyone.Cn the MPs tell us their action plans for 2014 OR THEY ARE JUST SLEEPING IN PARLIAMENT.To be honest , high profile MPs like Walter Muzembi are useless.Mhere in Masvingo is also useless. What have they done to uplift the lives of people in Nyajena?Tokwe Mkosi victims are struggling and they never went there to symbathise with their relatives.
Some MPS do not even know that being an MP is not a ticket to argue for your party in Parliament. You are the servant of the people, not the boss.If MPS need vevicles they must buy for themselves because they were buying beer during campaigns
I urge businesses to stop paying tax if these greedy MPs continue witheir lavish demands

They do not get it. They are civil servants ; they are supposed to represent their constituents and are answerable to them, not the other way around . In future, Mliswa, refer to your constituent as “Honourable tax paying Person who pays my salary”. Grovel and tug your forelock while so doing. Walk to work, ride a bike, drive a small car. Remember who you are. You are not a big god; you are not even a little god. You are a politician with a no idea of how to fix the economy. Big cars do not respect make. It simply looks more ridiculous and people snigger as you pass by.

Everyone else gets paid by results. This is the only bunch of non-entities who get paid before they have even done the job they where sworn to do in Parliament. Soon as they step inside that now less than August House they give themselves status. They think they are better than everyone else. They have not earned any status so to me they are scum and will remain so whether they drive the latest BMW or walk to work. I refuse to acknowledge this filth. Temba sits very well with excrement

You are an idiot Themba. Be careful your days are numbered. Mutasa is after your head. Mangagwa, nyabadza, Jona Moyo are all after your head. We should have elections annually because that is the only time they get off the arse and at least pretend to do something for their area. God only knows why I still live here.

If the headlines read “Zimbabwean unemployment at 2%” Zimbabwe gives its population affordable health care” Housing is affordable for every Zimbabwean” Zimbabwe imports sky rocket to make Zimbabwe one of the top exporting countries in the world” Education for all a reality in Zimbabwe” Zimbabwe has the best road and rail network in Southern Africa” Then and only then would they deserve this. They have failed so they should be each given a bicycle to get to work. The world will look and say” Zimbabwean flops are the best looked after Politicians in the world”.

$35,000 for a Ford Ranger? This car dealership must be investigated by Interpol. Our buy 2 legislators are the most gullible people on earth and they deserve what they get when Zimbos finally wake up from their deep slumber and realize they are being cheated by a sophisticated syndicate of thieves. Mliswa should produce his current resume and look for a job and then buy himself a bicycle. He reflects the typical Zanu PF culture of impunity, privilege and entitlement. Cars before the nation’s survival is a sad state of affairs. So obsessed with perishable stuff.
