Renewal team disputes Tsvangirai’s claims of unity in MDC-T

via Renewal team disputes Tsvangirai’s claims of unity in MDC-T | SW Radio Africa by Tichaona Sibanda on Monday, April 7, 2014

Rebels in the MDC-T, calling for the ouster of party leader Morgan Tsvangirai, have dismissed reports of unity saying all is not rosy in the labour backed movement.

Two weeks ago Tsvangirai said there was renewed unity within the party following talks aimed at bringing an end to months of infighting.

‘We have discussed our issues and there is now unprecedented harmony and unity of purpose in the MDC cockpit,’ Tsvangirai said following a meeting of the national executive in Harare. He added; ‘The party is not in turmoil. Of course this was just a bleep in the struggle.’

There has been discord in the MDC-T since the party ‘lost’ to ZANU PF in last year’s elections. The latest bickering was triggered after the suspension of the deputy treasurer and former energy minister Elton Mangoma, who in January publicly called on Tsvangirai to resign over the election defeat.

Mangoma’s lawyer and MDC-T member Jacob Mafume, accused Tsvangirai of departing from the party’s core values, alleging the use of violence, a blatant disregard of the party’s Constitution and undemocratic approaches to decision making.

‘Regrettably, such tendencies have alienated genuine democrats within the party to the point where differences in value propositions have reached irreconcilable proportions.’ Mafume said at a press conference.

In an apparent reference to Mafume’ statement, Tsvangirai told party supporters in Mkoba, Gweru on Sunday that the rebels were free to form their own party and said he found it strange that they were lecturing him on core values when they have no idea where the party came from.

Youth leader Promise Mkwananzi, who is part of the renewal team, told SW Radio Africa on Monday that they still need to convene a meeting and iron out issue that have been bedeviling the party.

‘Things are still not yet rosy in the party. We still need to revisit some issues on the internal suspensions, sporadic violence and more specifically to relook at the suspension of Elton Mangoma,’ said Mkwananzi.

Rebels form your own party and leave Morgan Tsvangirai to run his party.after all you agreed to Name it after him. I am not happy with Tsvangirai’s leadership and have withdrawn my support for MDC.I am waiting for the formation of the new party. We need a party that offers something different from ZANU.MDCT is too similar to ZANU to make any difference in future. forget about MDC t and form a peoples party not named after an individual, you have my support.

Am I missing something from the Mangoma Team…if the guys really feel that Tsvangson has moved from the core values of the party why not wait and go to Congress and boot him out.

You do not change Pilots in mid air.

Mangoma’s grievances may have been legitimate but the way you handled the issue make you appear like also power hungry lunatic.

Ideally, you should have stepped down first from your position and then say ” I think the party needs renewal, with new people with new ideas”

Renewal on Tsvangirai only? Come on.

I am not a member of MDC and had a lot of confidence with people like you and Biti to eventually replace Tea Boy. But remember he who wields the sword first dies with it and will not enjoy the fruit from the sword wielding.

The damage caused outweighs, the renewal you are talking about and I think you have destroyed your political carrier completely.

Nonsense, if the plane is going to crash, then u definitely need to change pilots with one who might have new ideas that may possibly save it, no matter where u are, u better die trying than just die. After all this is the right time, this guy has just lost us 3 matches, the next game is in four years, if we change the coach right now, we will have almost three and half years to rebuild. The plane is actually grounded & it aint going nowhere very fast, time for servicing, & refueling.

Time for Cross and Kay and Bennett to form a party with a manifesto which addresses the plight of Zimbabwe’s people and is managed with integrity, not with the intention of self-enrichment

MDC is not about Tsvangirai, Mwonzora, Mangoma, Biti or Chamisa. MDC is about anyone who is opposing oppression of ZANU PF. However if the rebels feel they want to form or split from the real MDC, they can peacefully do so or be removed violently because people are tired of sellouts and stooges of ZANU PF who are falling in the foolishness of MDC Ncube and the then MDC99. If Ncube had not been an instrument of ZANU PF in 2008, Zimbabwe would have been a different country now under the leadership of Tsvangirai, Ncube Biti and Mangoma. They would be progress and not this fighting. Its time that people realize that the more they fight ZANU PF is making all moves to entrench its self in government and the more the Zimbabwe resources get diplitted. They would have governed long time and perhaps Tsvangirai serving his last term as President and retiring and another coming may be Mangoma, Biti or Mwonzora. Now fighting is not helping any one.

    No staying power.
    Thats us zimbos.

To think that the zanu machine would stand quietely by whilst the MDC regrouped is to be naieve in the extreme.
The Charlie boys have been very busy indeed and the results are now obvious to anyone with a modicum of politico-savvy.
To trust the Mangomas of this day is to scupper the struggle to rid our country of the evil thats ruining it, ZANU.

Change of leadership is indeed needed but now is just not the time.
Stay strong guys, the struggle is a very protracted one and cannot be won when divided.

Power hunger is a terrible cancer, but mangoma misbehaved in government (Min of Energy etc) , mugabe through CIO has a record of of this. arrest and procecution is a whistle away. This is pay-back for the boy. The day mangoma agrees to shut up and behave in MDC, a case will be opened against him. Watch this space!!!!!
