Victoria Falls comes alive

VICTORIA FALLS reverberated to the sounds of local and exotic music on Sunday night when the Jameson Victoria Falls Carnival Festival roared into life with tourists from around the globe converging in the resort town for the three-day extravaganza.

The festival started with pomp and fanfare at a bush party in the Zambezi National Park that went on late into the night.

It was an experience worth having as people from across the racial divide shared the serene environment of the park, wining and dining aboard a steam train giving the party a Victorian era flavour.

The resort town has been a hive of activity with tourists still trickling in for the carnival and the usually quiet Kazungula border post to the west of the town was kept busy as international tourists drove in for the event.

Victoria Falls mayor Sifiso Mpofu said the festival was a good tool for marketing the country and the resort town as an international tourist destination.

“The event has put Victoria Falls on the international arena as a safe tourist destination.

“We are happy with the developments on the ground,” Mpofu said.

And mugabe&co want to rename it to … something stupid no doubt. MUGABE FALLS might be apt, if you get my drift.

There is no end to the utter stupidity of the Mugabe regime. Renaming Victoria Falls is about as big a step backwards as the land taken from productive farmers.

A fitting description would be to call it “Zimbabwe Falls”. The perfect metaphor.
