City blitz blasted

Blitz on defaulting businesses by City of Harare has not generated income and the exercise is a waste of resources, a senior council official has said.
According to minutes of the Finance and Development Committee of June 17, acting finance director Mr Tendai Kwenda told councillors that the process seemed to be a waste of resources and suggested that it would be beneficial if officials diligently performed their duties at their usual workstations.

“He also emphasised the need for heads of departments to be vigilant and accountable for functions under their purview and improve on supervision of employees,” reads the minutes.

Acting town clerk Mrs Josephine Ncube said all the departments had suspended such operations.

Council has been raiding businesses since December last year in a bid to improve revenue collection.
