Dr Grace

via Dr Grace | The Zimbabwean 23 September 2014 by Jera

The chatter surrounding the First Lady’s PhD – genuine or unearned – has not subsided. To break the ice in a doctor’s waiting room, one only has to mention ‘cheap-cheap UZ degrees.’ When Mugabe’s PR team engineered a degree for the First Lady, they must have overlooked the sophistication of Zimbabweans – 94% literacy, least we forget. Zimbabweans continue to ask questions, two weeks days after Grace Mugabe, without showing any shame, walked up to her husband – self-appointed Chancellor of anything called a government university – and received her doctorate.

How did she manage to complete a doctorate in two months? For the ordinary citizen, what is the point of enduring 4years of undergrad, two years for Masters and another three to seven years for a PhD if one can obtain a doctorate by ‘kiya-kiya?’

What example are Robert and Grace setting for their children and the nation as a whole?

A few have defended the First Lady – for a sack of maize seed and a bag of ammonium nitrate fertiliser, you can buy your own fan club – stating that she diligently and quietly went about doing her degree work. But Grace is anything but quiet. Without anyone’s prompting, she picked up a microphone and announced to the whole world that her daughter was a virgin. And when silence would have been the best defence, she recently said deputy minister Fortune Chasi was harassing her over land she had acquired for her orphanage.

There are a few things I don’t understand about Grace Mugabe’s PhD degree. First, in what field is it in? Secondly, a doctoral degree has to be defended in a public forum. Where did Mrs Mugabe defend her doctoral dissertation, and who was her opponent?

She might as well have genuinely acquired her academic degree, and, if that is so, let’s here the whole truth and nothing else but the truth. Universities are, after all, meant to be places dedicated to the unflinching search for the truth.

The case of this scandalous PHD of the so called first lady is a really shame but the incumbent has no shame at all. I would not be surprised to see her walking naked I mean without anything covering her because she has no shame no conscience or is she not intelligent enough to have not anticipated that people would generally question her acquiring a PHD qualification not to talk about the the period of the PHD qualification.

The initial reaction from ZANU PF ‘organs’ was reminiscent of the diesel-from-a-rock fiasco when grown men and women assembled to recognize and praise a pile of nothing. And Mugabe capped the whole thing. Unbelievable stuff.

We no longer have academics of Prof. Walter Kamba who stated on stepping down as UZ Vice Chancellor:
“There are unprofessional fingers interfering in my work. I have never and will never play games (politics). Whatever I do, my conscience is my master. When I die, I would want people to write – here lies a man whose master was his conscience”. I am able to recite what Hon. Prof. W. Kamba (MHDSRI)because it touched my heart then. Such was a man of integrity. Can the same be said of the current post holder and the Academic Council?

Prof Walter Kamba said that in protest to the late David Karimanzira’s machinations to curb academic freedom at UZ in 1990. Then Kamba resigned.

Levi Nyagura, a manyika boy in the hands of zezuru boys, read Ignatious Chombo here. Manyika boys are known for standing up for what is right, the lates Tekere and Chitepo being examples here.

Rest in peace Prof Walter Kamba- a man whose conscience was his master.

You need to read the staff members employed at UZ currently. One is tempted to re-name UZ as MaShona university.Check the web-site for the names and surmanes of people in administration faculty by faculty, it is a semblence of absolute rot.

I know how hard it is to get a degree in old age, let alone a masters degree. I graduated in 1999 with a masters in Manufacturing Systems and Operations Management under respeccted lecturers and supervisors likethe late Dr Chateuka, Mugwindiri, and the like.
I was working somewhere else and these men taught me whst it took to attain excellence in studying. 3 years down the line Iwas capped by mugabe. I wonder how a bbusiness woman, mother, wife, politician, etc would manage to attain a masters/ PhD in a year or less, how someobe gets capped and your thesis ( a bound copy) Is not filed in the library, or podted on the web.
please tell us the truth. Isu we went kuchina Kamba and it was an achievement to enter UZ and get a degree, so should it be fo our children. WHAT IS THE TRUTH WITH amai mugabe’s PhD?

Grace’s Pork Hot Dog(Phd) should not come as a suprise to the world. Cooking credentials runs in this family. Rememeber when Mugarbage was reported to have gone to Hong Kong to look for a place for Bona to do her Masters, in less than a year Bona emerged with a masters degree. Bona dismally failed her O levels at the Dominican convent and Zimsec cooked her certificate so that she could be get admitted in Malasia-Hong Kong university whatever under the psuedo name of Tracy Guvamombe. So what is surprising about Dis Grace getting a donated Phd

I am surprised at the consternation surrounding Dr. Grace’ new Degree. In Africa (if you hadn’t noticed) there is little difference between an Honorary and an earned degree. For example, His Excellency the President counts all of his Honorary Degrees as if they were earned. And if he were a man who needed such a thing, he would include them on his Resume (CV). One might say that ‘rank-has-its-privileges’ not just in Africa but everywhere.

Honorary degrees are awarded to people who show their level of competence is equal to that of a learnt degree . However this ethic has been subjugated to honour prize fools in some cases
You don’t need a degree to show you’re educated you need to show your fellow citizens that you are well versed in your subject matter. In Zimbabwe it seems the baboons have a higher standard of education than some of the politicians.

@Katherine ,i dont buy your story here.what people are complaining about is the PHD which was awarded to Mrs Mugabe not that staff is from Mashona or whereever.People are employed based on they competence and qualifications

These are Dis GraceLess’s only legitimate qualifications.

1- Secretary with the roving eye
    2- whoring wife
    3- Husband snatcher
4-Grave robber (she hangs on to a geriatric with one leg in the grave)
    5- menace to Zimbabwe
6- Disgrace to women of Zimbabwe (evicted poor villagers and their children onto streets)

Please Jera do NOT call her Dr. That is an insult to all the hard working intelligent sons and daughters of the soil who toil day and night to earn a qualification.
Grace ‘s only qualifications have been earned on her back missionary style.
