THE fate of over 200 villagers who were reportedly evicted from Manzou Estate in Mazowe to pave way for First Lady Grace Mugabe’s private wildlife sanctuary will be sealed today when High Court judge Justice Erica Ndewere rules on whether the matter should be heard as urgent or not.

The villagers, who have been living in the open after their homes were razed down by police last Wednesday are hoping the ruling would go in their favour.

The matter had to be pushed to today to allow the respondents, Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi, Land and Rural Resettlement minister Douglas Mombeshora and Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri to submit their heads of arguments after the villagers’ lawyer filed contempt of court charges against the three government officials.

Through their lawyer Tonderai Bhatasara, the villagers are seeking to stop the evictions and demolition of their makeshift homes while they have also made another application seeking the arrest of Mohadi, Mombeshora and Chihuri for contempt of a High Court order issued last year.
