First Lady condemns mini skirts

via First Lady condemns mini skirts – NewsDay Zimbabwe November 21, 2015

Zanu PF women’s league secretary First Lady Grace Mugabe is on a collision course with gender activists after her remarks that women who wear mini skirts have no one but themselves to blame if they are raped by sexual perverts.

BY BLESSED MHLANGA

“If you walk around wearing mini skirts displaying your thighs and inviting men to drool over you, then you want to complain when you have been raped? It’s unfortunate because it will be your fault,” Grace said while addressing thousands of Zanu PF supporters at a rally in Mberengwa yesterday.

She called on women to wear long dresses or trousers. Grace said the type of dressing, which left women’s legs exposed, was a result of moral decadence.

“Wear clothes like Mai Mugabe or you can chose a trousers, but not those which are too tight. These types of clothes are the signs of moral decadence in our country,” Grace said.

The statement by the First Lady comes at a time women’s movements Katswe Sisterhood held a demonstration in Harare demanding the right to dress as they please.

Former Katswe Sisterhood director, Winnet Shamuyarira said she was angered by Grace’s statement.

MDC-T spokesperson Obert Gutu said: “The statement by Grace is very disgraceful and denigrating to any woman and more so coming from a woman and the First Lady.”

Mini skirts are a fashion here to stay. Why is Grace so much obsessed with gender and sexuality? In Binga she once urged men to quench their sexual appetite on whores. Is she ‘sexphobic’? Thus the result for taking a social nympo for a wife. I shadder to imagine the pain she causes to her captive mixed audiance at the mention of thighs and rape. Pathetic.

Yes …….for sure all our grand grand grand ..mothers were being raped everytime they went out to fetch water and collect firewood with bare breasts and two pieces of cloth just covering the front and bottom.

…..and my advise to all men now in 2015 ,take a photo of her with your smart phone before you fxxx her.Just in case that sexy girl goes to the police and say ” but I was wearing a long dress” and even if its true, just reduce it with photoshop on our computer. Thank you amai, now I will spend my free time roaming the streets.

@jo, rape is no laughing matter – it’s a very serious and sickening crime that leaves the victim scarred for life and could expose women to HIV. It’s just that Grace is so heartless to try and justify such an odious and revolting crime.

grace is not going to dictate how I dress. She is the biggest whore!! She stole another woman’s husband. As I recall she was married to Stanley Goreraza herself at the time she and mugabe were comitting adultery. Oh I suppose its okay to sleep with a married man as long as you wear trousers and not a mini skirt???

This rant shows how archaic Grace is.

First of all, people – both men and women – have a responsibility for their actions and there is no way any sane person can justify such a violent, heinous and degrading crime to some fashion issue.

Whatever people wear they must be able to do so without fear of somebody taking the law into their own hands and blaming the victim’s dress sense. Is Grace suggesting we have a society of such irresponsible people? If that is the case then we have an even bigger problem.

This kind of reckless talk has no place in today’s modern society and should be condemned in the strongest terms.

To think that it’s coming from the mouth of someone who condescendingly claims to be mother of the nation is beyond belief.

There are societies today where still people wear minimal clothes(e.g. West Papua) and yet you don’t hear about rape being prevalent as a result.

Lets be honest. The way some women dress is morally improper. What will you be trying to achieve by putting on a mini skirt that barely covers your butt?? While I do not advocate for you to be rapped, and whether you like it or not, there are man out there who are sex staved, and given the choice between a decently dressed woman and a “miniskerted” one his obvious choice is the one with a mini skirt because he has already seen half of what he wants. Even to the well behaved man, I call this sexual harassment. You cannot complain that your dog has eaten your food when you intentionally left your door open. Those who know that there are dogs out there keep their doors closed. Get back to you senses women and do not jump onto cultures that do not conform to ours. If you are really eager to walk necked, then strip down to your pants. Most of you right now are saying aahhh, so where do you draw the line. Your mini skirts are too close to nakedness and that’s my complaint. I see most of you struggling with your mini skirts, trying to pull them down while sited or walking. WHY? – because you realise that its not right. I have seen demonstrations for “the right to wear as we like” and the women who are leading are wearing long dresses while you are busy making fools out of yourselves. Women – what you have is precious, protect it. Your don’t see gold lying everywhere, if you do you should know that its fake and you will notice it by its cheap price.

@open eye …but be carefull man ,because one day a hardcore feminist will stick a ball point it that one eye you still have.Well in anycase your problem would be solved.Well apart from the smaller problem, that you will not be able to identify her in a line of supects at the police station.because even if the police allow you to use your hands ,they will all come wearing very long dresses and if they have a sence of humour micro mini skirts.

If I had my way – I would advocate for a law making it an offence to put on a skirt that is shy of your knee height and I urge the first lady to push for it. Even schools do not allow girls to wear skirts that do not go up to your knees because they realise its a good thing to teach our children. I am sure you too want to raise well mannered children. Remember – children copy a lot from grown ups – so what are we teaching the next generation? Whatever response you will give – Jo, assume you are saying it to your children, and if it still makes sense, then I assume you do not have kids.

@open eye – who are you to make such a call? You must remember that these women can think for themselves and that’s why they are not walking naked.
Its the perverts who need such laws for many women have a moral compass and they can regulate themselves. Grace is on the side of perverts.

@ Yayano. I have copied for you the definition of “pervert” (the verb) according to Mirriam-webster.com and you can deduce the relevant noun. Please do not limit the word pervert to sexual behaviour.

          Definition of PERVERT

          transitive verb

          1

a : to cause to turn aside or away from what is good or true or morally right : corrupt

b : to cause to turn aside or away from what is generally done or accepted : misdirect

          2

a : to divert to a wrong end or purpose : misuse

b : to twist the meaning or sense of : misinterpret

This is exactly what the people wearing mini skirts are doing, and thank you – they deserve the law. They are corrupting, misdirecting, misusing and misinterpreting values, morals, cultures, rights etc. – you name it and I am glad you are with me.

This is an insult to Zimbabwe’s men, Grace is basically accusing them of being uncivilized.
You go to the beaches in Kenya, Ghana or Namibia and you see women scantily dressed in their bikinis all day and there is no fear that any one of them will be raped.
Grace should think first before she talks because some of her views are very embarrassing to say the least especially when they are dissected at forums like this one.

Open Eye. Ndizvo, I wish you had two of them open or many. What is the primary purpose of putting on clothes? To cover the body. Then warmth. So if one struts about with thighs exposed that is deranged and insane. We do not condone rape. A rapist is a pervert and sadist and crazy. Why give them mileage? For instances, why leave vulnerable girl toddlers with suspicious relatives? In the same vein, why put on a mini-skirt? You want to show ’em?

If anyone still had doubts regarding Grace’s state of mind surely this “rape” statement/comment must be enough to convince an sane person that the so-called mother of the nation, Dr Grace, is totally deranged; and belongs to some mental hospital.

Surely, if Grace truly believes wearing miniskirt is some kind of crime in her Zimbabwe-Gushungoland why not just instruct her husband to issue a decree to that extent as she always do with anything she deems fit? Surely, if miniskirts were so bad why would they not be covered under any of the country’s laws currently in place; or better still why wouldn’t a predominantly zanu pf parliament, well known for taking instruction from the same zanu pf one-centre of power, not simply legislate against it? Why would a whole First Lady, in her normal faculties, go out of her way to incite rapists to go about raping girls and women as a punishment for doing anything for that matter?

All sane people know that raped is simply abhorable and unjustifiable; and even if wearing miniskirts was bad since when have two wrongs started adding up to give a right? Of course, in the mind of this deranged woman it sounds perfectly sound that: WRONG + WRONG = RIGHT. Of course, not in the mind of any sane person.

Now Zimboz are being told, by Grace, that rapists are saints and judges who are entitled to pass judgments and mete out punishment on miniskirts wearing people. Shame!

      Well said @mapingu.
This coming from an adulterous person with no moral compass. Why did she commit adultery in the first place if she knew what is bad and what is right?
And now she has the audacity to give a moral lecture, since when Grace.
Now her statements are appealing to like minded perverts with pedophilic tendencies who think that women are fair game.
