FORMER police detective Farayi Nyapokoto has sought President Robert Mugabe’s intervention in a matter where he wants Police Commissioner-General Augustine Chihuri to compensate him for unlawful arrest after he spilled the beans over the alleged murder of two robbery suspects in police custody.

Nyapokoto wants President Mugabe to press Chihuri to enforce a June 11 2011 High Court order which awarded him $50 000 in damages and a further $6 400 being legal costs.

Then, High Court judge Justice Lawrence Kamocha ruled that police had wrongfully arrested him after testifying against the police force in an inquest hearing of the suspects.

Following the ruling, Chihuri filed an application for condonation which was dismissed by the court on February 7 this year. Nyapokoto claims Chihuri went further and blocked the Deputy Sheriff from enforcing the court order.

Part of his appeal to President Mugabe dated June 23 2014, reads: “I therefore wish the assistance of His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zimbabwe and the other responsible senior officers in the delivery of justice in this country to intervene and come to my help. I have failed totally to get help from the Commissioner-General of Police in this matter.”

The letter was copied to Bulawayo Provincial Affairs minister, Officer Commanding BulawayoProvince ,Home Affairs minister Kembo Mohadi, Chief Justice Godfrey Chidyausiku and Prosecutor General Johannes Tomana.

Nyapokoto was fired from the police force and evicted from Police Ross Camp in Bulawayo after he exposed the alleged killing of two suspected armed robbers in police custody.

He is said to have exposed the incident after testifying in court that the suspects were killed by his colleagues on duty on the fateful day, resulting in him being charged with contravening Chapter 11.10 of the Police Act and earning him eight days in prison.
