THE MDC-T party on Friday said the hate speech uttered by Grace Mugabe against Vice-President Joice Mujuru is “un-African” and is polluting the minds of children.

The party said Zimbabweans should shun the state-controlled television and radio stations so that they do not “unlearn the African values of respect” for elders.

Jameson Timba, a planning commissioner in the Morgan Tsvangirai led MDC-T alternative cabinet, said the ZBC is eroding the Africa culture of respect for elders.

“I do not want my children to be exposed to the hate speech being spewed through the national broadcaster,” said Timba.

Timba said Mujuru is a woman and a mother who should be respected by everyone in spite of their political differences for the role she played during the liberation struggle.

“We might differ with Mai Joice Mujuru politically but we should respect her as a woman, a freedom fighter and an elder person,” added Timba.

“Those who appointed her to where she is should be brave enough to disappoint her and save us all from this daily vitriol and hate speech including confessions of unconstitutional invasion of her privacy.”

The state-controlled ZBC and Herald newspapers have been on a crusade to attack Mujuru from all quarters without giving her the right to respond. Mujuru is being accused of attempting to oust President Robert Mugabe from power at the party’s December congress.

The state media went a gear up last week when they alleged Mujuru was also plotting to assassinate the president. Mugabe’s wife, Grace, has been spearheading the public attacks on Mujuru.

Mujuru last week indicated she was planning to institute legal action against the state media and Grace for defaming her.

“I have briefed my legal practitioners to take the necessary steps, at law, to restore my good reputation, political standing and dignity.

“I stand ready to defend myself before the party, and in any court of law on any of the allegations made against me, at any time, in accordance with the laws of Zimbabwe,” she said in a statement.
