THE reburial of the remains of 79 fallen freedom fighters that were exhumed from a disused Mine Shaft in Mutasa District in Manicaland that was scheduled for today has been postponed to a date to be advised.

Minister of Home Affairs, Cde Kembo Mohadi, yesterday confirmed the postponement.

“The reburial has been postponed due to logistical reasons to a new date that will be advised,” Minister Mohadi said.

He, however, could not disclose the logistical reasons although sources said some war veterans led by Cde Jabulani Sibanda, wanted to hijack the Government event and turn it into political rally.

Zanu-PF Manicaland provincial chairman Cde John Mvundura was quoted by ZBC yesterday saying Vice President Joice Mujuru was supposed to officiate at the event. Cde Mvundura urged people to come in their thousands to pay their last respects to the fallen freedom fighters.

Cde Mohadi, however, said he was unaware of the plans by Cde Sibanda.

“I am not aware of that,” he said.

The reburial was supposed to take place at Matumba Six, Herbert Mine in Mutasa District.

The exhumation of the remains was spearheaded by the Fallen Heroes Trust.
